Not sure if this has been posted before but is it possible to set up multiple accounts on a dsl modem and use different accounts on different pc's?

or is it just better to use bridged mode and set username/password on each pc?

bridged mode is the best way. im doing that, 3 pc's and an xbox.
i switch between shaped, unshaped, local and international

So are you saying:

Router
TelkomInternet
IS Local 30GB
SAIX Local 10GB

PC1
user1

PC2
user2

If so, depending on your modem/router configuration it is possible

its way easyier to set it to bridged mode, i do that, have 5 pc's connected at once

what i'm trying to say is if i set up two connections on the router will i be able to restrict access to each account based on what port the PC is connected.

Lets Say the router has two accounts and i want two PCs to use different accounts, PC1 uses one ethernet port on the back of the router and PC2 uses another ethernet port, is it possible to make account1 accessable to only PC1 and account2 accessable to only PC2 through some setting(s) on the router?

Don't think that's possible, at least not with standard routers.

I thought i saw an option on the Telkom-supplied Mega100WR...now i'm not sure is there a way to emulate a router/modem so i can fiddle with options without having the actual modem?

Is there some way to emulate the Mega 100WR so i can check out some settings?

Cisco ADSL routers can do what you want. I don't think you'll come right with a 'cheapie'.

If i buy a broadband router like the Linksys WRT54GS how can i set up different PPoE connections for seperate PC's? (Settings to be set up on the router itself)

I've got 2 different accounts setup on the router (not the Mega100WR), then I just use network address translation (NAT) to assign the accounts to whichever PC I want to use it on. NAT might be called something different on the Mega100WR though.

Could you please elaborate on your configuration for the different PVC's configured on the router. What should the VPI and VCI settings be on the second PVC as this can't be the same for both on my router? (My first uses VPI=8, VCI=35)

It would be really great if you (or anyone else running this configuration) could post all your configs (except username/pass :D ) for the different PVC's and if possible your NAT config too.

Thanks a mil!

This is what I'd like to do, and I think you've got the same in mind:
- Get 2 adsl accounts,
> one with international bandwidth for services like MSN/GoogleTalk/Skype/Browsing etc.
> one 30GB local only account
- Configure the router to connect both these accounts (PVC0 and PVC1)
- Leave the one account on the router as the default route for any pc that connects to it and configure the second account to "forward" all traffic (via NAT) to a single IP address on the network (the second PC)

I've done this before with a MECER router/switch but can't figure out how to do it with my new wireless one (VPI/VCI settings)

Once I get mine sorted I'll help you configuring yours if needs be.

Cheers

Took some trial & error for me to figure it out, as the manual wasn't much help. First thing, it doesn't work on different PVCs, I've got both accounts running on PVC0 (VPI=8, VCI=35 is the same for both accounts, so you don't need a 2nd PVC). Let's call accounts you created INTL and LOCAL.

Second, router assigns IPs to the different PCs connected, i.e. 10.0.0.5, 10.0.0.6, etc. All I do under the NAT option is to associate the account with the PC I want to use it on, e.g. INTL goes to 10.0.0.5, LOCAL goes to 10.0.0.6.

Things might work differently on other modems, but the concept stays the same.

Hope that helps.

Damn, I've got a MECER ADSL 2+ Router (TrendChip WAR25TC) and I can't see where to configure mutliple username/passwords for a single PVC!

If anyone knows how to please let me know.

Thanks

Ok, just for reference sake, here's what I did to get it working on my router.
I've set up PVC0 to make my default adsl connection and activated the bridge interface on it. Now if I want to connect another pc to another adsl connection/isp (eg Unshaped gaming/local only) I just create a new connection (once) from WindowsXP with the Network Connections wizard and connect that whenever I need it.

If i already have one connection then can i set up another connection in bridge mode then set up static routing to route my other broadband router to the bridge connection?

My Setup:
My router is permanently connected to one connection configured on the router. This means that any pc I put on the network will receive a new IP from it (if DHCP is enabled on it) and use the default connection on the router to access the internet.

Now if I take any PC on the network and then create a new connection with windows it will be a bridged connection as it is initiated from a pc and not the router. When the connection is successful, it will override the default settings of the first connection and use it instead. So this means that I don't have to set up any NAT/static routing stuff on the router for the second PC.

Hope this clarifies it a bit :)
Shout if you're still having problems or something is unclear.

What about static routing? You set up a route for a specific IP on your LAN to use a different PVC...
