Hi clever community!

Currently changing insurers, I am required to get a new tracking device installed in my vehicle.

Tracker is not interested in the old device and advised me to just leave it in the vehicle or pay to have it removed. I called the installers of the new device and they say they arent supposed to mess around with other devices on the vehicle, and that it's not really a problem and i can just leave it and forget it's even there.

Is that good advice or should i get that thing disconnected / removed?

thanks
Rob.

Leave it, Hopefully if the car gets swiped they rip the wrong device out and think they are safe :D

POTD.

Although some of the devices (specifically the ones on batteries) will run out of power at one stage and just die. Then it's only useful for the above purpose.

I was told a while ago that a second tracking device can cause a battery drain. Not sure how true, kind of makes sense but I don't believe it could be that much of a drain.

Insist they remove it at their cost. Don't surrender.

I still have two vehicles with the SkyTrax units, but haven't used the service for some years. They run the battery down if you leave the car standing for a while. Big pain.

I have 3 devices in my vehicle, all from the same company, and I have no power issues. The car has been left for over a week at the airport already with no effects. Car started first time and with no trouble at all.

This ^^ . You can keep them in for the heck of it, but sever the power cables at some point. Power drain is a huge issue unless you are able to put them in a deep sleep mode

The tracker unit is the worst when it comes to battery drain. Once the battery pack gets old, the tracker unit, drains the battery rapidly. You have real issues when your main car battery is weakened.

Also removal of the tracker unit, is simple. It is just 3 wires.

You just have to find it.
