Multivitamins

Does anyone here take multivitamins? Thinking of starting to take them - but would I just be creating expensive urine?

The Dr suggested I take multivitamins because according to her we don't always get what we need from our diet. For some things it feels like it helps but I can't take it all the time since it causes other problems....

I used to take Spirulina ... and now I take Green Power tablets (5 a day) from http://www.therealthingonline.co.za/green-power-tablets.html It contains both Spirulina and Chlorella + some other sea veggies and grasses.

I buy it at Dischem. I take them because I dont eath very healthy and I hate veggies ... thought the ones I had last night was rather yummy with my Foodlovers Market Home Made chicken pie. It was drenched in mayo and cheese I have to admit :eek:

I also like this because unlike your other multi vitamin it appears that you dont just pee out most of it. With t his my pee looks pretty normal ... not that radioactive yellow you get with normal multi vitamins.

Maybe consult a doctor to see what you may be lacking. Only get multivitamins if you are definitely lacking and it is causing an issue in your life. Taking a multivitamin could impede your body from producing these vitamins naturally because it is getting them from the pills which could leave you needing these vitamins for life.

Also just because it says it's a multivitamin and contains 26 different types or whatever does not mean your body can absorb them properly, resulting in you creating expensive pee.

Most people don't need these products so don't fall for the advertising. Eat a piece of fruit and you've probably done more than a tablet ever will.

That's just Riboflavin, multivitamins have much more of it than you need.

Maybe consult a doctor to see what you may be lacking. Only get multivitamins if you are definitely lacking and it is causing an issue in your life. :confused: Besides Vitamin D and Vitamin K, your body does not produce any vitamins.

I boost my immune system in winter with Viralguard.
But more importantly - I take a maintenance dose of Zinc every day(Zinplex). According to my dietician its the only supplement you really need if you follow a balanced diet.
So far so good.

In my opinion essential amino acids are more important than vits. If you want to avoid pissing money down the drain, look at your diet before you decide.

See what you may be lacking, i supplement lysine and iron(don't chow meat) purely because lysine heals your body faster and it is an essential amino acid. The rest i get in my diet. So i have done research and my essential amino acids are fine, lysine not so much due to eating so many things with Arginine in it. You really have to break it down because there is no point supplementing when you eat well enough to be getting what you need. Lysine though should be supplemented. They say it's only for cold sores and so on but the reason for that is it helps your body repair faster. Arginine counters it's effects that is why supplement it. Iron i had a test done to ensure i needed to supplement it. I knew i had to though due to the fact that i don't chow meat.

Have not read the link ... blcoked on work pc .... do they take into account that a lot of people have a very bad diet? It is one thing to test veggies etc to test what they contain and quantaties ...... but if people dont eat them it counts for nothing. I for example seldom eat veggies.

What is your diet like? do you eat fruit? Do you eat well?
