Any recommendations what to do for a day in Munich? I have basically a day and a half of free time during an upcoming trip

I'll be staying at a hotel off Bayerstrasse which is sort of close to the old town

If you are a car fanatic, the BMW museum was quite cool. You can check out Olympia park. Marientplatz was a nice square to visit.

visit the Hofbräuhaus ... and drink beer :)

hitler apparently gave his first speech there ... so u kill 2 birds ... get some culture/history and beer ... not to mention the beer wenches :)

Also, if you're interested in these sort of things, Dachau concentration camp is just outside Munich so you could go and check that out.

This. Awesome atmosphere and beer ;)

^^^ Agree - I lived in Munich for a few years and it took my 3 weekends to go through the Deutsche Museum (from where you are staying I think you just need to climb onto the S8 towards the airport). The BMW Museum is okay, you will probably not spend more than 1-2 hours in it. It's worth a visit as it is in Olympia Park where during my time in Munich they hosted Tollwood (this has now become a "winter festival" and runs from November but is relocated to Theresienwiese). I heard that they have built quite a few attractions in Olympia Park, so worthwhile to check out any event schedules there.

If you stay along Bayerstrasse you are pretty central - Munich central station will be very close by and you will have quick access to all the subways/trams. Get one of those multi-zone Munich public-transport day-passes. Theresienwiese should not be further away than 4-5 blocks from where you stay and to get to the BMW Museum you just climb on the U3 (a 30 min trip) from Munich central station.

If you are into parties, visit "Kultfabrik" (or "P1" - if you want to hang out with the most pretentious people in Munich). I also heard that in middle of November Deep Purple will play in Munich.

If you are child at heart, a trip to Legoland might be worth it - this is a day trip and will take you about 1 1/2 hrs per train and you will manage the park within a day (I am not sure if it is still open in autumn/winter though).

The BMW museum is part of the tour - also a driving experience with them...

Got Marienplatz on the list :) thank you!
