After much speculation, it is cofirmed that the municipal strike is over, after trade unions and government came to a wage increase agreement.
The only problem now is to successfully inform all union members that the strike is over before they start trashing the streets again.
But don't quote me on this, rather read the article.

This strike will propably go down as the most violent so far, making headlines on major news networks around the world, again portraying South Africa in the worst possible way. But yet, what the world saw was the cold hard truth. Reminds me of what Siener van Rensburg said...
Anyways. I'm just glad this crap is over. The municipal strike was such a shock to our systems that we completely forgot about the 'peaceful' SABC strike. That wage dispute has also been settled today.

I am going to work right now. Here in Jeffrey's Bay, the strike goes on. I have tried to contact some of the employes I know. After telling the good news to them, no one believed me. They want to strike. Apparently is more pleasant then working. WTF

Strike over ?

...maybe not
Municipal workers in Joburg have branded their leader, Petrus Mashishi, a traitor - as news spread that unions have acceded to their employer's revised offer of a 13 percent wage increase....
...
..."We have been sold by Mashishi! He is a sellout!" shouted one Joburg branch leader, amid rapturous chants ...

I think it's now going to turn ugly with members turning on their leaders.

I really like the tags for this thread: apes, municipal strike, stop, unions, work

I wonder whether the municipality will give me discount on my refuse collection charge for not collecting the trash this week...?

But what about the 0.2% payrise?!!!! 13%? What a bunch of tossers. I would have at least toi-toi'ed my gat af for that 0.2% extra

yip, so these f'ers got exactly the same deal as was originally offered.
all they did was loose a weeks pay, and cause millions of rands damage to property and the economy.
but we know, its just in their fibre & being to act like hooligans.
the idiots who trashed the place, will now have to go pick it up again
"this is a **** job, lets throw trash all over the place"... a few days later ... "eish, this is a **** job, look at all this trash we have to pick up"

some of these lazy ass bums don't even deserve to have their jobs, lets hope they get punished for the damages. (not holding breath)

Well 31 July my car license expired. I went to the municipality to renew it but they were closed because of the strike. So on Monday I when I go back I will probably have to pay a fine for late payment. **** I hate the idiots that run this country!

2 widely different responses from the 2 unions.
Imato says "considering the current economic crisis, this is a good deal", which u have to agree, anything over 9% is actually not bad in our economy.
Mashishi (?) from the other union "we're not saying we're happy, because the workers will never be happy with any agreement".... now that must be the quote of the day, hitting the hammer right on the nail.
I wonder if us consumers will be given some cut back where being screwed over coz of the strike. Ask to see one of the managers, if they want to charge u extra for late license, and pack off on him/her.

Fat chance. :p But it will all be made up for when they come to get their "Christmas box" at the end of the year. :D
