I am watching the news on e-Tv.
Please help me.
Is it a cultural difference or just plain barbarism.
Why?? Why must the city be trashed?
The worst is they seem to enjoy it.
I don't know.
Behavior like this can not be conducive to building a rainbow nation.
Or is it my imperialistic colonialism bastard background that causes me to misinterpret these poorest of the poor's good intentions?

I once saw a protester empty a rubbish bin and then lie down in the rubbish and roll around in it. Maybe you are correct, it's cultural....

Same question I've asked on several occasions before.

Instead of trashing things up, they can do something more constructive, and with mor impact, like blocking the mayor's car, or staging a sit-in in his/her office? :D

Saw in one newspaper a picture where the locals had just killed a suspect and they where all dancing around the body , but what took the cake was the picture of this women with a smile from ear to ear?
There's a dead body lying there, have they no skaam?

Just plain savage is all it is.
I think the worst experience I have had was in Tanzania where the locals caught a young mother buck and four "men" each grabbed a leg and proceeded to rip it apart as sport!
reminds me the bull p[enis thing a few months back!

Samwu opted for industrial action to push for a range of demands, mostly related to getting market- related salaries for municipal workers.

This would include setting the pay rate for municipal managers and councillors it believed were being paid above market rate.
So municipal managers and councillors are being paid above the market rate. Not sure how Samwu can determine what the market rate is for them as there is no comparitive positions for these in the private sector. As for the rest of the municipal workers getting market related salaries, the lowest paid worker gets a minimum of R4000/month + benefits (home owners allowance, medical aid etc.). I'm sure that this minimum wage would be considered mutiple times above what say a cleaner could earn in the private sector.

The funniest was during the last strike (last year, was it?). The angry mob arrived at a pile of unlaid paving stones on the side of the street in the CBD. They stopped there and proceeded to pick up each stone and smash it to bits on the curb. Total destruction would not have been met had all 5742 stones not been broken of course so they stayed there and ensured that every last stone was dealt with accordingly before moving on to the next item marked for destruction. It didn't seem to get old either.

LMAO - how can you ask if its cultural, what culture in the world will have imbeded in its heritage the fact thta rubish bins must be emptied? don't be stupid - think for one second why ppl do it...

or maybe you need 5 seconds....

as they clean the streets, and no one is listening to their call, why not make the streets dirty and then their call will be heard! Simple...I agree its stupid as they'll have to come pick it up again next week, but its a sure fire way of getting your opinions heard...now, pls drop the silly refference to it being a part of culture. Or by the same measures we can assume that khaki clothes are also part of some people's culture? And a quart of beer? And sound in their cars? No no no...

There was a strike planned here in Cape Town by Metrorail workers, quite the elaborate affair - a few thousand disgruntled workers were expected to march on parliament and deliver a list of grievances.

The strike went off fine but the march was hopelessly under attended... no one could get to town without the trains.

The reason that I mention this is to illustrate the utter, bloody minded stu-effing-pidity of the unions in this country.

Don't look for logic or reason, there are none.

Care to point out another group of people who exhibit similar behaviour?

Not similar but different - lets take the South African nomads into consideration, lol, their leader dies and they all of a sudden increase in numbers and vow war...like it worked in the past...lol that's probably part of the culture as well, I'm just saying!

The mob is currently walking past our building.... and making a mess.
