Never mind what I said then.

Swing / Groove is not for house music, its to make your drumming sound more natural, which in my opinion is not a component of deep house. house music specifically doesn't implement groove / swing because it relies on the standard 4/4 house beat. House music by definition is predictable and uniform.

IF however you were adding some conga's, bongo's then it probably applicable, but Black Coffee's tunes are pretty standard if you ask me.

The problem is that mine sound very 'raw'. No character.
 
then its probably filters and compression that are required.

what's your budget? not much point cutting too many corners when it comes to monitors, rather get something decent than a substandard set of cheapies.
Fro the price the yamaha HS series is excellent:

be aware that with any of these smaller monitors you're going to need a sub to get the bottom end.

As for drum pads, the Korg Pad****rol is a very solid bit of kit, but avoid the korg nano series.

I rather enjoy my korg nano's to be honest. I dont have the Nano Keys, but all the rest work rather well.

Actually house music does "swing" especially the hihats. The swing is an integral part of the feel. If you're keeping your kick and snare on the 1s and 3s try adding a touch of swing to the hats. A big mistake people make is thinking house is absolutely quantized and straight with no swing or "feel" it has to swing or it sounds like ****!

House is also heavily produced, so you're going to have to apply some compression for starters. Try Parallel compression on the whole kit, which is a standard technique used in a lot of dance music. You can also apply compression to the individual kits pieces for even more punch.

Hi folks.

I would like some opinions/criticism/feedback/advice on the following two songs. I have posted songs before on this forum and stated how I am self-taught and still learning my way around. So any help would be appreciated.

The first song is very experimental (like most of my stuff but this is slightly more). I tried something different with my voice. I find it rather annoying, so feel free to let me know if you concur with me.

The second song was something I done after I did a fair amount of highly electronic stuff. It is basically just strings with a tad of piano. As I was exhausted of hearing the same style over and over again.

Again any feedback = much <3

Thanks Offspring and Metallica are my favourite bands :) still want to also try learn how to play metallica's stuff.

I find Offspring way easier to learn than Metallica.

If music is your #1 job, then it will be done. I have so many songs which I have started but can't finish due to other things :mad:, I'm especially fuming now that I haven't had time to finish my take on Bitter Sweet Symphony.
