Muslim Groups Attempt to Censor Wikipedia

I noted that, but seeing i hardly have any knowlege on muslim religion, i expect anything...Just thought they were like that on their church as well
Muslims have mosques, not churches. :)

And you thought we were like what exactly? Your post isn't really clear..

The truth of the matter is that it is not about the placement of the picture, but whether one group of people have the right to enforce their opinions on another group. Religion has always been a sensitive topic. One only has to look at the world's history to see the destruction created in the name of religion. However, please note that i refer to people and not religion as religion in itself is only a belief system. It is the people and the various interpretations of their belief systems that is the root of the problem.

The nature of religion is such that for one person to ridicule or attack another's religion, the recipient will suffer emotionally and of course spiritually. It is for that reason that i belief we need to respect another's beliefs. I do not think anyone has the right to be hurtful towards another without good cause and this reason alone is a good enough argument. However, it is not always easy to remain quiet just as it is not easy not to insult someone somewhere unintentionally. You get really sensitive people out there and not everyone is religious. So you need to draw the line somewhere. As the intention of wikipedia is not to blaspheme or disrespect i do not belief muslims have the right to demand the removal of the picture. Although their belief system forbids such a picture, non muslims do not share in that belief and therefore have the right to access such information. Look i could be wrong, but maybe intention should be used to determine what should be allowed or not as you cannot cater to the whole world. There will always be someone offended somewhere. If you go and hurt or destroy or something because you do not like the picture on wikipedia, then be prepared to accept criticism, cause you will get that in spades

How accurate is the picture? (see post #164)

If the accuracy of the depiction can't be verified then it shouldn't be there in the first place.

That's irrelevant. The principle here is freedom of information, that's the one on which wiki was founded.

Most rational people realize that drawing or painting or sculpture may not be entirely accurate, and may include the artist's interpretation.

I don't see the problem, if a muslim can't see a picture; then I'm sure they can refrain from going to the site.

If you don't like porn, do you go to porn sites?

maybe they should have add a muslim block code feature to censor certain pictures on wikipedia, and then incorporate this to function with Internet Explorer's parental control feature

I guess they feel they need to police their followers. Anyone know where I can get that picture for my desktop?

I can guarantee you that if they printed some 'Scientology' related material, especially material with 'copyright' they would have been sued out of existence. Maybe the Muslim need to patent their prophe's image and do as the scientologists did.

Besides everyone is editing Wikipedia for their own interests these days, if it's not the Japanese Agriculture Ministry to correct the Gundam entries (although they have later said that THAT ministry is not in charge of Gundam) then its the White House and White House resident wanna-be's.
