Hey Forum

I'm having issues with hosting an a MW2 server through alterIWnet. I can get the server running locally but no one can connect locally. I know it must be something to do with port forwarding on my router. I have a gigaset sx762 router and I have gone through the port forwarding settings but nothing seemed to work. i used the port 28961 and tried to forward that to my Local IP but the server still does not pick up.

Has anyone worked with the same router and knows what settings i'm forgetting?

Cheers

You want to sign up at https://www.rigaming.co.za/ and chat to mezoli, he hosts the south african mw2 server thats running there everynite now.

What I do to get my server to work and show on the list is set my pc hosting the server as the DMZ. not a great idea, but it works. haha

Yeah www.portforward.com said something about the DMZ (demilitarised zone?) where exactly is that setting? I'm thinking of running the server on a spare PC running windows server 2003 or something.

i set my pc as dmz and got hacked :| so would NOT recommend the same. alteast not if you leave the pc unattended. Again I suggest you get on rig and chat to mez. We are trying to start a mw2 community over there, at the momment we can hardly fill up one server with south african players...

I should be able to find a few players if I get involved :) I found where to set the DMZ (it's called "exposed host") for a Local IP Address, I'm sure I tried that last night though and it didn't help. Maybe Windows 7 firewalls were blocking something. I'm going to try using Server 2003 and see if I can setup a firewall to let through only those ports. The ports for MW2 are 1500, 3005, 3101, 3478-4380, 27000-27050,28960 if I'm not mistaken? the last port being specific for my server i guess.
Will chat to Mez.

Also, I believe it is against the rules to ask for help in this forum for illegal software... :erm:

I own the game, but without the ability to host dedicated servers I cannot organise custom matches with anyone in SA.

I did however open the following ports on my router: 1500, 3005, 3101, 3478-4380, 27000-27050,28960 and that seemed to sort out the problem.
