Interesting post with regards to this.
As someone in the minority who pops in and out of many servers to play online, this initially didn't bother me much. I enjoyed the CoD series mainly for its singleplayer immersion, and dabbled in online for a while as well. I was hellbent on preordering MW2 no matter what.
I've given it a lot of thought since this article came out, though, and decided that I won't be getting this. Even though this doesn't affect me much as an individual, I can see how this is affecting many gaming communities and clans. Dedicated servers have been around on PC for at least over a decade, so why in the living hell would you take a huge step backwards into the realm of consoles?
Like others have said, its where regular people go to play. It's no different than going to your local bar and seeing the same friends and employees there (Cheers anyone?), except now, you're told which bar to go to, and you're going to like it or else. I can relate to this in Team Fortress 2. I have a couple of amazing dedicated servers that I go to, one which hosts a great mod (roll the dice). If that were to go the route of what IW is doing, I'd just uninstall it immediately and save myself the heartbreak.
IW, I hope you're reading all these comments. Your business decision is creating more than a ripple in the water, as its affecting everyone, even people in my category, in which as much as I'd like to still buy MW2 and just shrug the new matchmaking system off, I'm not going to give in and support such an asinine concept.
My money is henceforth going to L4D2, which will keep me busy for a long time. And hopefully IW will have enough time to dislodge their heads from Activision's ass and realize they're not making money on their cash cow like they thought they would.
Bottom line? Don't toss us PC players to the side of the road just because your game is the successful FPS equivalent of Madden. You make us suffer, and we'll gladly return the favor tenfold.
