Hey guys,

I recently purchased mw2, the installation and everything went fine..
ive been playing for a few days but more and more frequently steam would disconnect and reconnect (i get logged out) i thought it was the server that timed out but everyone is still jammin.

last night was driving me up the wall, it literally would disconnect and reconnect every 5 mins, but then its fine for a few matches then the fun starts again:mad:

ive allowed access on my firewall, and my nat is open (in mw2).

im running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
e6600 @ 3.6 gigs
team xtreem 800mhz 2 gigs @1000mhz
gigabyte ga ds4 965 mobo
250 gig seagate sata drive and 80 gig drive.
9600gt 1 gig @ 758mhz core, shader @ 1954mhz and mem @ 1022

let me know if i missed something

oh ive got a telkom 384 adsl line.

no cuz my mates have 384 lines and they dont have an issue...other games work well online, like borderlands cod 4 etc

I think your problem is that you have 384

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a 384 line for gaming... No matter what network you're on, whether it be Steam, IWNet, Battle.net or Gamespy.

My advice is to close steam and find and delete the ClientRegistry.blob file in the steam folder. When we had steam ticket issues when playing CS in the past we just deleted that file and reopened steam and it was fixed. Another thing to try is to delete any *.ncf files in your steamapps/mw2 folder. This forces a download of all the steam configuration files for the specific game.

If that doesnt work then my next suggestion is to force run the steam.exe in Administrator mode and if that doesnt work then try compatibility mode set to Vista or XP.

thanks alot, will give that all a shot asap, and let u knw..:D

Funny error.

What ISP are you currently with?

Do you only loose connection to Steam or do you loose connection to the internet?

ye is strange.. im with mweb (dont ask, im changing soon:D possibly to screamer) no i still have connectivity to the net. just steam screws about

I only asked because sometimes its the ISP's that throw you off.

If the other sollutions given dont work maybe try the unthinkable and delete steam, delete the reg entries and then download steam from steam website install steam first and if that does not solve the problem then re-install the game also.

But please this is the last resort.

is there the possibility that i need to do port forwarding or something?

yeah ill leave re-installing as a last resort

found this

If it can connect once then it can hold the connection... Besides forwarding ports is to direct INCOMING traffic... You're connecting to steam, not the other way around.

I read that thread and the one guy is saying that if he starts steam up with the -TCP parameter then it works fine... Try that.

oh ok, has been a day of learning for me, thx..

cool 1 more thing to try when im home.. :D

You could also check the port forwarding on your router and open up the NAT... If you open your Multiplayer of MW2 if it says Nat - Strict or something along those lines you will find your Pings are alot higher as you are connecting to other intl pp... what you also gotta take into account is that... IWnet runs on Intl servers so make sure ur running with intl bandwidth.... one other thing is you should not try host games because on a 384kbps line its gonna suck major... make sure the person you are joining has a stable line preferably a 4mb line and you shouldnt have to worry about Lagfests etc... :p

It seems to have improved, i updated my sound drivers and made sure my gfx drivers are up to date. then i forced it to run in administrator mode..

I played from 6 til about 7:30 then it disconnected. But when i connected again it ran well the rest of the night. So its not 100% but it is atleast playable. ill still delete the clientregisty and possibly the ncf files tonight.:p

Yeah it says nat open in the game, and i have int bandwidth :)

i try to avoid hosting but sometimes it migrates to me haha

thx for the replies

Im still being kicked out of the game to windows...sometimes it says DX error and sometimes nothing...its reallt irritating and when i host its worse because then everyone seems to dc because IW doesnt migrate the host which is strange.

Yeh that is usually due to the game either being cracked or DX is not installed properly... download the latest version and then reinstall it that way :)

Is there actually a setting that you are not the host?

I get chosen everytime to bethe host but I would like not to be the host every second night maybe.

not that i know of.
same with me tho. i dont want to host, but just happens. then we lag lol

Had a guy last night also he had the worst connection but IW decided he will be the host.

All of us were dragged down to one red bar each

This is the problem with Matchmaking servers they choose the next best person and if there is an american on there he/she will get first preference as they are..... A Yank.... but thats how it works..... it sucks major
