Hey

I see mweb launched their 10mbps uncapped home offering. Just wondering about the price tag, R1999. That almost 4x the price of the 4mbps.....for 2.5 times the speed. Why is it that high? Its not very likely that some one will download that much more with 10mbps? Who really needs to use 3Tb per month of data anyway.....

Still great service Mweb though :) Have been using a few of your uncapped accounts since launch.

NOT justified. Makes no sense to the *AVERAGE consumer, therefore it is most likely this pricing was based off a pure business model rather than consumer interest(fair pricing). Taking a wild guess but the pricing is this way because they believe they would need more money to sustain their quality of service because 10Mbps users would be downloading bigger files, streaming more, overall using more services...really putting that network to the test. It's like a safety blanket for the company.

Not to mention, if it is priced this way, not many people will flock over and convert, so for those that do pay this price tag(upper class-ish), they will receive better than average service because the "middle class" cannot afford. My random GUESS.

Convert this to the other currencies it is around $320 USD/month! $200/month in GDP, and $230/month in Euros!! SIMPLY...WOW.

Either way, at least Mweb is trying to change things.

Think of it this way, it's 20x the speed of the 384 package but not 20x the price.

The 4mb pricing is quite heavily undercut and I suspect they make most of their money on the 384 & 512 users.

Are you kidding? The same people who are currently using 600GB+ on their 4MB lines, that's who.

I have a 4mbit uncapped line and we have one at a house shared by 15 students. Even while building up a very nice collection of 1080p movies (all legal offcourse...) i still dont download that much. you have a point though that some people will do it just cause they can. which is where the much hatted fup comes in. But even if u assume clients max out their lines, then u can still not justify charging 4x the price for a 2.5x upgrade in speed, unless they realized the 4mbps is a bit to cheap to make them any money.

Another thing is that if its this expensive, the only people getting it will be people who really really need 10mbps because of their usage, so your average consumption per customer would be a lot higher. If im paying R2000 for internet, im gona make sure i get my moneys worth.

That being said, Mweb service has been good, even on the shared line between 15 students who do download quite extensively, i have not received any complaints from mweb on usage. Afrihost cut off the "uncapped" account i tested with them after 3 days.

Launching it at that price is a pointless exercise. The best that can be said about it is that it is available if you want it. At that price, though, you would have to be pretty daft to use it.

I'm wondering if one could buy two 4MB uncapped accounts and run a dual connection with load balancing... hmmm.... certainly possible with a good router or dd-wrt and a good script.

Hi BrokenLink

We would like to offer a 10Mbps customer a good experience and the cost of providing such a service cannot be ignored. Over time, the costs associated with providing a 10Mbps connection will decrease and we will continually evaluate the product pricing to ensure we provide great value for money.

Kind regards
MWEB Operations

MWEB Operations, you are either a techie or you are a marketing suit. You cannot be both. Techies are crap at marketing and marketers are crap at techie stuff. Stick to what you're good at. ;-)

lol no i agree, dont want to compromise on service :) just think their trying to keep to much people from signing up but still want to be able to offer the 10mbit uncapped. which is good i guess, rather see what the usage will be like before they commit to having 1000`s off people sign up at once. gota give the network time to grow at a manageable rate.

then they should stop advertising cheap uncapped internet on 5fm?

id be really interested to see the usage of mwebs network as people get more relaxed with the idea of having uncapped 4meg. Im sure soooo many people have stopped downloading the internet, and are far more chilled now...

I know I am. I actually have no cooking clue how much I download on a monthly basis. There is somewhere I can check hey??

Good plan. You already got 4Mb people paying for a 384Kb service, as your 4Mb is a horrible experience at the moment. Might as well milk the 10Mb users for a 384Kb service as well. The MWEB of old is back, good to see that things never change :)

Having a bad day are we? ;)

Definately not. I'm very happy on my Express+ uncapped account where I get full line speed when I'm at home. I tried MWEB, and they were great at the start but their service went backwards - even with their promised upgrades.
I cancelled them this month, but have to wait out the last of my notice period now.
