Mweb 1mb all inclusive

"MWEB is however better positioned as they already have a 1Mbps uncapped ISP account. MWEB’s 1Mbps uncapped ADSL product is priced at R369 per month, slightly more expensive than their 512Kbps service which costs R299 per month."

If Mwebs 1meg uncapped was R250 then it would make sense to downgrade. If there was a bigger difference in price then i would get accustomed to a 1 meg line.

just my 2c

I have it. Webafrica FTW:D:D:D

you mean pay R87 less and have 1/4 the speed
Huh, that does not make sense Mike
I've got a 4meg line plus the Webafrica 130 special.
I pay R413+R199=R612
So is there really a big difference between R525 and R612
Would anybody really wana sacrifice the 3/4 for a measly R87 extra
It makes sense if your exchange doesn't do 4 meg :)

But my point is that 1 meg + high cap is better than 4 meg uncapped (which only does full speed for 5 hours).

you right on the 1st point yes, but on the 2nd, the cap is not the issue here, the speed is. a 1 meg line is still shaped, so the guys on 384 speeds will just be doubled basicaslly. torrents and streaming will still buffer. i really don't see the need for paying so much with so little gain in speed. on 4meg lines everything runs at full speed except torrents.

Thanks :)

Please confirm this for me if you can:

That would be based on the customer having a 4mb line, which was the only option available to use a 1mb product at the time of publishing. That's the sort of detail I'm waiting on the products and marketing teams to finalize :)

Bah wonder how long it's going to take. Very curious to see Mweb's plans

What Mweb should do is to shape the 384,512 and 1meg folks less then the 4meg and 10meg speeds.
Like a hierachy approach. this will even out the average speeds across the field and be wortwile to actually get a lower line speed.
the shaping on the lower speeds atm is not worthwhile with mweb's heavy shaping policy.
for starters it should be something like this.
384k less 50% shaping
512k less 30% shaping
1meg less 15% shaping
obviously on on all uncapped packages
other isp's may also implement something like this to make it worthwhile for the average joe

just my 2c :D

Mweb is R695
Still no worth it for 1meg.
extra R200 bucks then you got 4meg uncapped.
go big or go home
I think the main problem here is that Telkom is charging a R100 too much for the 1mb line.

LOL my boss is such a noooooooob. Our office line has been upgraded to 1mb allready but he does not believe me. The office is running on a 512k Uncapped from Mweb, so when trying to explain to him about the upgrades he goes to speedtest.net and runs a test and then says well see how slow it runs.. Blah Blah... and so on.. But he does not believe me when showing him router stats clearly showing 1024 down and 512 up speeds...

If he's the boss why's your name the boss? :p

I find it funny that Telkom upgraded these lines and didn't inform the ISP's beforehand to prepare them.

Also, I thought MWEB was going to save us from the Sith, not join them?

Mweb can make a big statement and take advantage of the oppotunity on offer atm, w.r.t. the 1meg lines. if mweb can price their uncapped 1meg line competitively they may grab the 384 sufferers by the scruff of the neck and do a job like they did when uncapped was introduced into the country. this is an opportunity for any isp to show that they can lead.

So has nothing been heard of yet regarding price changes for the Mweb 1mb packages? Last I heard it was going to be reviewed, but nothing more.

Well i think that nobody want to put their cards on the tables first. the rest will obviously follow with a better deal.
not holding thumps yet
