Hi
Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade from a 512 to 1024 all inclusive(data + line) with Mweb?

My brothers currently have the 512 package from Mweb, and after seeing on Saterday afternoon that their ADSL router was indeed now syncing at 1024 download and 512 upload, they called Mweb today , only to be told by the sales consultant that Telkom does not offer 1mb lines, and that their only option is to upgrade to 4mb:confused::confused:

This page http://www.mweb.co.za/productspricing/InternetAccess/ADSL/BigtimeSurfer.aspx, does in fact show an option for 1024kbps account, but it is data only, not with the line rental.

Is it not yet available from Mweb, or will it not be offered at all?
And maybe the Mweb sales consultants should be made aware that 512 lines are now syncing at 1024, they seem to not be aware of that option.

Your brothers bad luck that he got a clueless call center consultant. How is Mweb's call center generally?

Well, I am a very new Mweb client myself (only signed up on Sunday :) ) so I can't really say anything about the call centre from personal experience. I do know my brothers recently had a lot of drama with the techs at the Mweb help desk not really being able to sort out some speed/latency issues in Wow, and they finally just sort of gave up and decided to live with it.

Maybe Mweb can put some kind of announcement/update on their web page though to clear up this 512 to 1024 upgrade thing, it was the first place I went to for information, but it seems to be a bit out of date. And of course inform ALL the sales consultants ;)

You'll first need to log off Mxit and log onto a computer. Once you've done that, we can give you further instructions.

Lol so mean! Justifiably, of course ;)

Hi Requim. I think it's very likely that we will cater for this in the future however I don't have any detail from our products team yet as to the timing, or pricing. I'll ask MWEB Guy to follow this up for you tomorrow to see if we can get you some detail on the matter.

Hi Will. Thank you, I am looking forward to hearing about this! :)

Another thing, on the uncapped page of your website, the line rental for the 1024kbps is listed as R413. Should it not be R326, the same line rental price as 512kbps?

It has just happened in the last few days. Give them a chance to work out if it is feasible and such. With capped it is a nobrainer, people will just hit their cap quicker and possibly the ISP's will make more money out of it because of people topping up more. With uncapped they need to investigate whether their bandwidth share can handle the doubled load.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Ah ok Tx, understand ...

Mweb UnCapped

512 > 1024 kbps Shaped All Inclusive (R326 Line + R273 Data = R599)
512 > 1024 kbps Shaped Data Only (R326 Line + R299 Data = R625)
1024 kbps Shaped Data Only (R413 Line + R369 Data = R782)
4096 kbps Shaped All Inclusive (R413 Line + R486 Data = R899)
4096 kbps Shaped Data Only (R413 Line + R539 Data = R952)

The 1mb option is a downgrade option for 4mb Line Users

Mweb is R695
Still no worth it for 1meg.
extra R200 bucks then you got 4meg uncapped.
go big or go home

I'd rather pay R326 for 1 meg + R199 for 130GB (Redafrica special) = R525 for 130GB @ 1 meg.

Almost twice the price for 4 meg uncapped which only runs at full speed between 1am - 6am is pointless to me.

I have it. Webafrica FTW:D:D:D

you mean pay R87 less and have 1/4 the speed
Huh, that does not make sense Mike
I've got a 4meg line plus the Webafrica 130 special.
I pay R413+R199=R612
So is there really a big difference between R525 and R612
Would anybody really wana sacrifice the 3/4 for a measly R87 extra

Hi Everyone

Our products team are still working on the finer detail for this, but in the meantime I don't know if you have read this article in which our CEO provides some feedback on our 1mb plans?

Thanks :)

Please confirm this for me if you can:
