Mweb 1MB Line vs Telkom 1MB Line

Hi MWEB Guy,

Im 2 weeks into my 3 month free adsl trial with telkom... They've had me on a 384kb line since the start, basically i cant use the service. Been trying to get this fixed for the past 2 weeks, no luck. Not looking to spend the next 2 months without service even if it is free. Even browsing is impossible. Mweb tells me that i'll have to wait 7-14 days to get onto a 1mb line but my “service” wont be interrupted. Im not willing to wait another two weeks, Im willing to move over to Mweb Right NOW if i can get decent service. Can you help?

If you take an uncapped unshaped package with Mweb will they still shape you??

Good morning InternetSwag,

Shaping is a way of managing the network to make sure that enough bandwidth is available to ensure that commonly used services like surfing and email, are given the highest priority for the best possible customer experience.

First we give the highest preference to commonly used services such as surfing email and video streaming. This is to ensure the best possible experience for the average customer.

We then allow most for other types of traffic to share the rest of the ‘general’ bandwidth 'pool'.

Finally we allocate a limited amount of bandwidth to the shaped traffic, which is shared by customers using more traffic heavy services like peer to peer. This allows these services to be used without affecting the first two groups.

I have to disagree totally with you on this. My 1Meg Mweb uncapped is rock solid. As a previous poster stated, i get the best latency i have ever had in WOW for the past 5-6yrs.

The service will (& is) be shaped when using torrents and the like, but not to the extent that it becomes unusable. I download roughly 50G per month using this account.

Hi MWEB Guy,

I phoned Telkom to complain, and as an apology they are willing to give me a 2 week trial on their 1MB line starting from next week, I'll check their service during the period and then contact you. Thanks for your help. :)
