Hello.

When I first got this account, I don't know, a couple of months ago, I found that torrents would generally run about half speed during the day and pretty close to full at night.

I don't use torrents much really and I have recently tried to download a couple of things and I am getting perhaps a couple of kB/s during the day and a couple of kB/s + a small handful during weekends and after hours.

Is this related to the upgrades that are going on maybe? Has anyone had a similar experience? It's a bit lame, considering how pathetically slow 384 is, even when it is running at full speed.

Also, has anyone else has a problem with their account just hanging, going dead and requiring a reset of the router to fix?

Thanks.

:D

I dont know about the router problems, but for the torrent problem, have you port forwarded properly, and is your firewall configured to allow the program AND THE PORTS through?

Hope this helps :D

I've been getting between 30-35kbps in the early mornings this week, between 6 and 8am. after that i leave for work so i dont know what happens during the day but i usually get around 700MB a day

Er yeah, port forwarding doesn't really affect the speeds. The man has 18k+ posts, doubt he's a no0b with that sort of stuff.

Yes, the speeds are very erratic and i think it's a upgrade thing which they say should be fixed by 1st October because they moving their client's off the SAIX network onto the MWEB network. Apparently...

Yes, of course. As I said also, it used to work just fine. Thanks though. :D

Hmm, is that the window, 6-8 AM? That's a far cry from the original situation, which was near full speeds shortly after business hours. Sucks a bit. During the day, I totally expect and don't mind slow speeds, as that is to be expected.

The only thing lots of posts means is no social life. :p

6am - when i wake up, 8am - when i leave for work. no idea what happens before and after.

last night i downloaded a movie 800MB, set it at midnight and let it run over night

Depends on the amount of time said posts have been made, 50 odd a day then yes :D.

Why don't you go find one of those cheap torrent places that download it for you, not expensive. What about nzb's? What is so amazing about torrents when you can get the same stuff on news servers :D.

I really don't download much and I guess I am just curious why it did work and now it does not work at all the same.

Also, I though this kind of thing was frowned upon by Mweb? Bypassing their shaping?

As for nzb's, I tried once and was met with limited success but I'll give it another go.

(try 60.95 :o)

18,718 / 365 days = 51,28 posts a day.

you have no social life :P

I got a 1GB file in about 5.5 hours last night (started downloading at about midnight) off usenet on a 512k uncapped line.

The exact number to 2 decimal points is in the post directly above yours. :p

Anyway, not what the thread is about. :D

Saw that, my international connection seems to have just died a very quick death with this MWEB thing. Can't even get a 200kb file now. Timeout.

That's very difficult to achieve. During the day, speeds drop to nil. During the night they are not that fast. 400Mb is tricky and sometimes doesn't complete by morning.

Not really. I am also doing it. Not on torrents though. and not raidshare/hotfile/megaupload either. Today is on 1.68GB and it has not been a good day!

I do 2GB to 3GB per day using torrents on 384K line
it just depends on how many seeds there are for the stuff you download

but maybe I'm just lucky
