Mweb 384 uncapped and torrents.

I do 2GB to 3GB per day using torrents on 384K line
it just depends on how many seeds there are for the stuff you download

but maybe I'm just lucky

You make me laugh. If several people can't even access torrents at more than a few bytes/second during the day, then how can you unless you're not doing it the 'legal' way. You sure you want to stick with 2Gig in a day on torrents story??

Here is the usage for last couple of days from MWEB’s site

September 26 2015.2 MB
September 25 2274.5 MB

Yesterday my PC was turned off just after 6 because my wife was home and I did not want her to have lag if she happened to use the net or play games online
And last night when I got home I turned it off when I picked up the international connection was dead
No use letting it run when the downloads is dead

The funnies part of this is that it wasn't even for the newest released series that just came out with millions of seeders
It was old stuff with small amount of seeders

As for that there are a couple of days this month where I have done over 3GB in one day
This is using utorrent as client software

So yes I would happily stick with the 2GB+ per day as easily possible with torrents

Just note I'm not saying everyone gets that but that has been my experience so far

Why do we pay mweb.
I miss 4Mbps

/\

That's pretty damn fast for a 384 line, or did you just see "Mweb" in thread title and pointlessly moan about something unrelated?

It looks like a 4meg ping but a 1meg line.

You seem a bit overly defensive, I must say.

I also used to get between 2 - 3 gb a day, on afrihost 384 before june. after that i got 1.5gb. Now that i am on IS accont (afrihost moved us) i am not getting good speeds. from 11 pm to 8am, only getting +- 600mb. THis is so much less than i used to get. I used to easily over a gig. I am moving soon and then will change to 10mb line, but i dont know what ISP to get!

Currently getting about 3 to 8 kB/s between two very well seeded torrents.

They're shaping you- Mweb uses a dynamic shaping platform, that's probably what's happening here?
However, you are welcome to give an unshaping service a shot, I can't offer you a trial but it's month-to-month. :)

Of course they are shaping me.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I am under the impression Mweb tells people to **** off who bypass their shaping?

I'm on MWeb 384 uncapped. I've kept a bit of a log of the sort of volumes and speeds I've gotten since April. I don't try and set any records, just want to DL around 40gigs a month. That's sufficient for me.

Torrent DL via utorrent:

Best performance for 24hours 2.2Gb
Best 12 hour performance 1.2Gb
This was about two months ago.

Highest observed consistent DL speed - 39kB/s

Using a certain workaround on a weekend three weeks ago I achieved 3Gb exactly in 24 hours holding the line speed almost constantly. This appears to be heavily shaped now..

Current uTorrent speeds are often down to 1Kb/s during the day and at 10pm - 30 minutes ago I was sitting on 4Kb/s. At this speed turning of my PC and saving the electricity starts to become an option:)

Will wait and see what the changes in early October yield but thoughts of an unshaped 384 line are starting to make sense unless someone suggests otherwise.

Can anyone confirm this actually happening? heard the rumours. Appears to be a non-issue with DS and Aero making regular appearances on the forum... Never seen Mweb openly comment?

Well, I've seen threads where it has happened to people, either it's true, or those people are undercover agents of some sort. :p
