MWEB 384 Uncapped feedback

Is anyone using Skype voice on their account? I don't need to run torrents during the day but often use Skype for business calls.

Forgive me telkom for I have sinned, it's been 2 weeks since my last capped account.

Skype calls, no problem. Made a call to London speaking for an hour last week without any issues. Clear, no hick ups.

Browsing seems okay. It's what you can expect from a 384 account.
Youtube.....still buffering from last night ;-) Only kidding, it's also what can be expected of a 384 account.
Newsgroups have been running at about 25-30kb/sec after hours(still no fixed time for when it kicks in) for the first week. It's slowing down now to about 10kb/sec after hours. Hoping it picks back up!

Kind of helps, but i think he is comparing capped accounts, rather then the new uncapped accounts.
Also no indication how much he has used on that mweb account.

Actually it's of no help at all, they are comparing 4Mbps lines. What does how much used have anything to do with it? Mweb doesn't downgrade your speed after a certain threshold...

hope this is helpfull

I've had my MWeb Uncapped(shaped) 384Kb/s line from 03 June 2010 and so far i've used 41Gb's:D
Was a bit of a nightmare to actually get the line up and running in the first place, but it finally happened, kept my cool and called them everyday for 2 weeks after they told me "ur line is active u can go ahead and use it" in the end an engineer came to my house(when i wasn't home:mad:) called somone at the exchange who fixed my problem in 10mins:wtf:

Browsing is actually not bad at all(day or night) seeing as i was using my phone before which was HSDPA 7.2mb/s and was terrified that the 384k browsing would be horrible.
P2P downloads currently top out @ 30-35kb/s max(even in the day) that's after i opened ports and all the tweaks, not bad actually when i realise i've downloaded 41Gigs in just over half a month(18 days)

Was quite happy untill i did test @ Speedtest.net and was surprised to see that i only get a download speed of 35Kb/s(initially thought that was only for my P2P) off of my 384Kb/s line:confused:, is that normal?
[/FONT] This was done on a sunday just after 13:00, still want to run test after 7pm @ night and test during the week as well.

Overall i'm quite happy, i hear Telkom may be upgrading their lines or announce upgrades on 21 June 2010. Let's hope they do away with 384k lines and i get a free bump up to 512k:D

Hope this helps

+1 .
Ive done 25 gigs since my account was active on the 4th of June.25 Freaking GIGS...thats 5x what TI was giving me for basically the same price.i have notices speeds drop randomly and torrents during the day are just crap.
im not bothered or going to cry because it is shaped. anyone who is getting over 20 gbs a month on 384 and you still wanna moan about speed... come on grow up :p

I got the MWEB 384 uncapped at the beginning of this month. I've managed 54GB so far and there is a week and a half left. :) Here is a speed test I did a few seconds ago http://www.speedtest.net/result/853706977.png.

Was the 70kb/s you got on ur test constant? or was it your peek? because mine peeked at 80kb/s the one time i did the test. The rest of the time i get around 35kb/s

35KB/s is slightly low but not much
You would normally max out at 38 – 40KB/s

Remember 8Kb/s (kilo bits second)= 1KB/s (kilo byte second) and you will normally only get 80% or so of your full connected line speed because of line overheads.

So a 384Kb line will give 48KB/s
80% of 48KB/s gives you 38.4KB/s
