MWEB ABUSE EMAIL

You guys honestly need to stop downloading via torrents. It is such a waste of bandwidth having to download and upload at the same time. Go for newsservers like astraweb, etc.

You can actually choose whether you want to upload or not you know ;)

I see no difference in Torrents and newservers. Except that you have to pay for them. Either way you munch bandwidth. And I'm sure there are a lot of kiddies out there who's mommies and daddies aren't willing to pay 10$ a month just so that boy junior can download ****. Sure Newsservers are better, but at the end of the day a lot of people, including me, end up using torrents. It's there, it's free, obviously people are going to use it. And like @Auntpol said, you can choose whether you wanna upload or not.

and correct me if I'm wrong, which i think I might be, but aren't torrents in general easier (organised) to download than a newserver?

some of the torrent apps will block your IP if you do not upload:erm:
If I'm not mistaken...

Apps? Don't think so. Some torrent sites yes, if you don't uphold a good Download/upload ratio, they ban you from their site. But that's only some torrent sites. and its easy to get past that :P

o ok, nice...what site do you recommend?

I was using piratebay

Firstly, what where you supposedly downloading ?
For the record, news servers are very good - but torrents have better speeds - many a time the server is congested, amount of users on a torrent can greatly improve speeds (duh actually I know)

Might I suggest that from now on everyone marks these things as Spam in their email app...specifically those with community learning style filters like gmail.

There is a difference. Torrents are distribution (since you are uploading). Newshost does not upload.

Most IP laws make a distinction between the two. Sortof like a weed grower & weed smoker won't be treated equally.

I'm not familiar with IP law details in SA though, so take that more as a general comment than accurate info.

Piratebay is fine, its a public torrent tracker. They won't ban you or anything. It's usually the private trackers that ban you for no upload. like torrentday. www.torrentz.com is a nice torrent search site if I might add.

ah I see. I'm also not sure about IP laws in SA. One thing I'm unsure of, are newsservers legit? by paying for the service, does that mean you can legally download movies and stuff, or is it still regarded as ilegal? Shed some light here for me please. :erm:

Its illegal to download or upload copyrighted stuff - Not illegal to share data...but hell everyone does it.

If a legit site can give the same service I would pay gladly, its not like Im a big master mind pirate who distrabutes illegal copies on the streets with a shady warehouse where mass copying is done -no

I download a cd and if its good I go and buy it...same with a movie.

Telscum & eskdom and all the other massive monopolies are robbing us more than downloaders these days.

SA is so full of %$#^

CAPPED internet?????
Uncapped 4meg garenteed but telscum has the right to limit you:wtf:

My opinion...

Who can truly say they have only legit software and vidz and music on their pc - if yes then your @#$ rich or working for the goverment.:wtf:

+1

Thanks for the info btw.

Pretty kewl vid man.

I'm guessing they can't trace you when using newsservers? Or do they? I don't use newservers, yea sucks being a student, that's why I'm asking. Been using just torrents and normal HTTP downloads.

Arg!...

Its not illegal to download copyrighted stuff in this country...
Its illegal to PROFIT from copyrighted material.

The contenet owners can bring a civil case against you for downloading their copyrighted material, but that doesn't make it illegal.

For Series I use Firefox and a video grabber that's an add-on to download episodes. You get to download at your usual speed since it's not a torrent.

Works for me so far.

No, all it does is block known IP addresses of the dudes who monitor copyright infringement which are updated from the regularly downloaded lists.

Note also that this is not a foolproof method and you can still get the letter even with PeerBlock running.
