So iv noticed that my internet connection seems to be throttled as speed tests bump up to 1.5Mbps and then drop down to a constant 0.4Mbps. Anyways, two days ago I cant seem to figure out why the line is so slow, phone mweb - everything fine on their side and tell me contact Telkom to do a port reset. Phone Telkom wait 20 minutes on the line no answer so i called it a day. Called Telkom again today and the Lady assists me kindly to reset the port and still same problem. So i call Mweb back and ask what is going on ? The Lady then begins telling me that my account is throttled in lines with their Fair Usage Policy whereby I have exceeded the threshold for the rolling 30 Day window. So i ask her what is this threshold and I am sitting on 149Gb for the month. Now I am sorry but i find that ridiculous ?! No warning, nothing. I am on a 4Mbps "Uncapped" line yet I am actually soft-capped at 149Gb?

Can Mweb finally please give me some clarity on this, what are the limits of downloading on each line speed as i don't see that having a 4Mb line capable of over 1Tb of data in a month is being limited to 149Gb by Mweb and being sold as an "Uncapped" offering. Just thought a company like Mweb would be clear on issues like this ?

Afternoon Dr.G

Reading your post, by the sound of things you on the 4Mb Standard package. The package has a threshold in the region of 110GB in a rolling 30 day period. The Standard packages are not suited for downloading, steaming, etc, it's more for general browsing, checking emails, etc.

What do you use the internet for? Do you download, game, stream, etc? Please can you PM me the MWEB email address or username as well.

And your 2mb standard uncapped ?

Afternoon Thor187

The threshold is in the region of 200GB in a 30 day rolling period. The Premium packages have a higher approximate threshold than the Standard packages.

Thanks I appreciate the reply.

Just a quick question.

Why is the 2mb more than the 4mb package?

(I have a premium account) just curiosity.

I think MWebGuy has made a mistake there... 200GB refers to the 2Mbps PREMIUM account. The standard has a "throttle level" of 70GB.

Sorry guys, well spotted Dubes.

The 2Mb Standard package has a threshold in the region of 70GB, not 200GB. As mentioned previously, the Premium packages have a higher approximate threshold compared to the Standard package.

rofl who the fck would sign up for a 2GB "uncapped" that cuts your balls off at 70GB?

Fck me I'm glad I left those *******s months ago.

There is no threshold
The threshold is approximately :o
The threshold is about
The threshold is in the region :erm:

...looking over your shoulder internet; careful now as you might get caught

Yes, on the standard "uncapped" package. Which, as the name suggests should be uncapped. I seriously think Mweb should reconsider the whole "uncapped" branding of these packages then as it is extremely miss-leading. Rather say something like;

"Up to 4Mbps line speeds with 110GB usage per month, after which we throttle your line to the point that you cant load a video on you-tube or load web pages " I download, game and stream yes. With HD content being as big as it is these days, 3.6GB data usage a day is the actual limit on this "Uncapped" offering. Quite frankly that takes a couple hours on a 4Mb line.

No man you got it all wrong. MR Mweb wants you to browse your email and update your status, none of this today-stuff of steam games, hd streaming, twitch :)

Now keep that shirt up with your chin; look over your shoulder internet :) :)

Uhm. Iamnotageek. Your name kinda fits your profile because its not a 2GB uncapped account its a 2mbps uncapped standard/premium. Your grammar is not that great either. I'm glad all the abusers left Mweb. Now I'm getting good pings on my games, anytime of the day.

I didn't mean to start a difficult situation. I appreciate mweb guy's response. 2 months ago that threshold was a close guarded ever changing secret of speculation.

Mweb's the only isp I know of who gave a estimate amount :)

How else can you make sure that you can change it when the need arises? (Those emails and profits are very important)

One of the ISPs backed by the dollar bill to make complaints go away or take forever...

Then again Daddy is the very devil himself: Naspers

Didn't say I agree. I just want to acknowledge them for sharing a physical GB number.

The other ISP's including my favorite always gives me funny responses.

They are no jesus, let alone the fact that they should be treated in any such way just because they managed to say approx.

Let me take you back:

Other ISPs that used rolling windows and did so:
Neotel - http://goo.gl/2Ak3cK
Web Africa - http://goo.gl/cBzEcM
Axxess - http://goo.gl/7St7fK
Afrihost - http://goo.gl/kfCYRu
Isat - http://goo.gl/exfb7d
WebNow - http://goo.gl/GEk9ob

Some of those "1.5TB" abusers:
Mweb School package, ±286GB per month - http://goo.gl/2Z9DCB
±93GB, with 60GB being steam - http://goo.gl/AwyHdz
±120GB per month - http://goo.gl/zppQWP
±130GB per month - http://goo.gl/NltUV3
Call center: letters were sent to all those using more than 100GB - http://goo.gl/7TFGdm
±140GB per month and Call center: letters were sent to all those using more than 100GB - http://goo.gl/gpyWya
Since Aug 2012 up to now ±200GB in total - http://goo.gl/0KW5JX
Average for the last 12 months is only 20.3GB per month. Highest monthly usage was 33GB - http://goo.gl/rtqnY4
Capped user on 15GB p/m - http://goo.gl/ZH7yGt

Do the smart thing: http://goo.gl/yEXZo3

They much like Microsoft with the xbox one wants you to just stomach it because it is good for you.

Out of those 6 ISPs in the qoute, my example, none of them used approx. They gave exact limits.

Why do you then sing their praises for their cowardly behavior?

Thats how I feel about OpenWeb! Geez! I honestly want to register the domain, openwebsucks.co.za

And then just create a blog filled with all the evidence.

(They dont have copyright on the name do they? I mean heck they stole their logo and lied about everything.)
