Mweb Acceptable Usage Policy

Yes, on the standard "uncapped" package. Which, as the name suggests should be uncapped. I seriously think Mweb should reconsider the whole "uncapped" branding of these packages then as it is extremely miss-leading. Rather say something like;

"Up to 4Mbps line speeds with 110GB usage per month, after which we throttle your line to the point that you cant load a video on you-tube or load web pages " I download, game and stream yes. With HD content being as big as it is these days, 3.6GB data usage a day is the actual limit on this "Uncapped" offering. Quite frankly that takes a couple hours on a 4Mb line.

On 4Meg premium the threshold is 400GBs. that would seem to suit you better.

It's not MWEBs fault that it has come to this. A while ago their premium uncapped was the standard. But after all the ISP price cuts they were forced to release a cheaper package.

rofl who the fck would sign up for a 2GB "uncapped" that cuts your balls off at 70GB?

Fck me I'm glad I left those *******s months ago.

It's only a problem on the lower linespeeds. 400GBs for the 4Meg premium is plenty. Just choose the right package for your needs.

I rarely top 80GB per month on average. This last was an exception, so understandably its irritating to now be Soft Caped over this. Just been reading up about this whole issue and its a lot more well known than I anticipated. Had enough of Mweb though, will be changing over to another ISP :)

The grass is not always greener so be careful.

The IS based ISPs have stars and time based thresholds, while the MTN based ISPs totally suck at streaming internationally.

So good luck.

I think you right. I got a capped account with a MTN based ISP and I used to have no issues with streaming episodes. Now its a mess even youtube is a problem. Torrents runs at full speed but other traffic seems to be an slow or intermittent. I know everyone is bashing mweb but their streaming is extremely good during the day or night.

Afrihost business. I am a moderate user with some months doing heavy some months not.

I dont have a problem with their business products.

But with any uncapped product you WILL have never ending unhappiness in South Africa. Uncap is but a myth here

Me, thank you very much. And I did all the research before deciding to stay with MWeb (and have the spreadsheet to show for it). I'd rather know exactly where I stand than the certain hours shaping or star ratings, or whatever they do now, of other ISPs

Lets see if I can help here .....

Get away from MWEB!!

They are the CAPPED / UNCAPPED kings ....

I'll take transparency thanks. They say throttling starts at around 70GB on my service. I can monitor my usage and see how I'm doing. He is my evidence. I've currently used 63GB in the last 30 days and I'm untroubled. As I'd expect from what MWebGuy tells us.

I can also stream Netflix and YouTube during business hours without shaping etc. Never experienced issues there. And this is a standard account. Not premium. Not business like some other ISPs.

Until the goal posts changes; whole reason for using approx, apparent, in the region and so on.

If the goal post moves and I'm no longer happy, I move.... I am not signed into a contract.

Of course just like all those who keep on paying for DSTV :)

That's their choice. I monitor my usage closely. I also keep an eye on what other ISPs are doing ;)

But hey, I'm all ears for someone who can point out a better "uncapped" offering for R199 per month that does not impose terrible shaping during business hours and improves on the soft caps offered to me by MWeb? And none of this "we may shape/throttle dependent on network usage at the time at our discretion"...

If they are not substantially better then why would I want to move from an ISP that has never left me with downtime in the last few years.

Also with DSTV there at no decent "legal" alternatives...

PS. You're all making me sound like an MWeb salesman :D I'm not, I'm just a fairly satisfied customer. Only fairly and entirely satisfied does not exist in the SA ISP market at the moment.

Mweb should rename their standard uncapped to soft-capped. It would give one a better idea of what the service is like.

Uhm. Iamnotageek. Your name kinda fits your profile because its not a 2GB uncapped account its a 2mbps uncapped standard/premium. Your grammar is not that great either. I'm glad all the abusers left Mweb. Now I'm getting good pings on my games, anytime of the day.

Nothing wrong with my grammar. I say fck to avoid the filter. 2GB... yea, I went full retard there.
