Dear MWEB Customer

You may have seen that Telkom is now offering an ‘up to 10Mbps’ ADSL service, which is being made available on a very limited number of exchanges across the country. Customers who have an existing 4Mbps line and who are on one of these qualifying exchanges (less than 5% of existing 4Mbps ADSL users), will be automatically upgraded to the new service.

If you are fortunate enough to qualify for this upgrade and you currently subscribe to one of our capped ADSL products, you will be able to enjoy the higher line speeds with immediate effect. For our uncapped customers, we will only make our 10Mbps product options available towards the end of September 2010.

The reason for this delay is twofold. Firstly, we want to satisfy ourselves that Telkom has addressed some of the congestion problems on its own network, to cater for this additional demand. Then, we are waiting for Telkom to finalise an upgrade to our own IPC platform – this is the bandwidth that connects our customers to Telkom’s last-mile network. These upgrades were put on hold during the Soccer World Cup but work has now resumed and will hopefully be completed within the next 3-4 weeks. Until we have this additional capacity in place we are not comfortable of being able to offer a product that lives up to our own high standards, and meets your expectations in terms of performance and reliability.

This additional IPC capacity will also bring some relief to our existing ADSL product portfolio where we are currently having to make use of additional capacity on the SAIX network to meet our total demand.

Thank you for your patience and continued support during this time. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards

Are you thinking of offering some additional uncapped products, i.e 6Mb 8Mb 10Mb? This would help users who don't sync at full 10Mb or who can't afford 10Mb uncapped to still upgrade.

I'd be interested in say 6Mb but definitely not full 10Mb at >R1k.

Mweb, do you perhaps have a listing of the activated exchanges? Thanks.

Not at this stage Kryon

It's still very early days yet, we promise we'll share any information on the subject with you guys as soon as we get it :)

That list however seems pretty inaccurate, as I live in Durbanville however have not as of yet been upgraded to 10mbits... my connection went down earlier this week, so I thought "yes finally!" but no dice, resynched at 4mbits again and it's still G.DMT, not ADSL 2+.

I expect however, the rest of the major D/Ville area will be upgraded over the coming months.

Those (old) links do nothing of the sort.

The article discussion indicates that the new link will (may) only be available on 15 Aug.

Why is MyBB posting old/outdated links as part of a current news article :( I'm on 384kbps, so any move to 10Mbps does not affect me.

However, if all 4Mbps users (in certain areas; in all areas eventually I presume) are automatically being moved to 10Mbps free of charge, where are the respective upgrades for everyone else? :)

It's a well known fact that any capped service offering will run at max line speed. It's only uncapped services that has speed restrictions.
