I want to get myself Mweb's uncapped 1mbps for R588, but I want to know a few things:
1) Will I be able to download from Megaupload at the same speed I'm getting with 3g?
2) Do they monitor what I download, as in will they ban me if I download something like a TV episode from Megaupload?

1. probably not, will probably be shaped, and pick up speed afterhours, will suggest news server for better speeds.
2. No

Hi Fireprife15

Yes you will be able to download from Megaupload, the speeds you will get is dependant on what time of the day you are downloading (office or after hours), the speeds also depend on the need on the network for prioritised protocols.

I average 200 KBs on megaupload free account, maybe 300 KBs when it's happy hour. Can I match this with abovementioned ADSL? Also, what is the average download speed on an unshapped site? And is Steam shaped?

We do also have test accounts you can use for a few days and see how it works for you.
Send me your contact details so that I can arrange a sales consultant to contact you and arrange this.

Max down load speed if there was no shaping on Mwebs 1024 kbps - over heads would be +-116Kb/s, chances are you will get close to full speed from 1am to 6am.

My dad is going to call Mweb in the new year, so we'll sort it out then. But I really need a pretty high speed to download through steam, and I don't think my dad's gonna go for a 4 meg line. Why is this slower than 3G running at 1 mb/s?

3g is not a 1mbs service, it goes up to 24mps(you will never get 24mps) these days, dependent on tower load and distance.

What else do you need explained that hasn't already been explained in the thread?

This is a complete fabrication. Please don't use the term "office hours" again in this context!

After hours means after 1.30Am (or beyond).

Also, anything that involves downloads from sites like Mega and Rapidshare are automatically deprioritised. That means they will never reach full speed.

Steam is a game server repository. Unfortunately despite some assurances to the contrary, games do not live happily on the uncapped accounts. Many users online will complain of high pings and ping-spikes whilst using the Mweb network.

Steam does not indicate online games, necessarily though?

Also, I don't think that anyone wanting to play online should be under the impression that an uncapped solution is the best one for this.

Yeah my concern with steam is more for downloading games, dlc and patches. And what I mean with the 3G is that when the connection client says I am running at 1mb/s I get about 300kb/s download speed.

Well, as mentioned earlier, certainly on a 1 meg ADSL line, you will get a max of about 10something...

Steam in my experience is pretty fast.

My concern is about the misleading stuff posted here by their reps or brand advocates. There are uncapped solutions that are better for games, particularly the unshaped ones.

Sure, if you are unhappy with what they are saying, they tell us, as you do.
