Hey guys,

I have been with Mweb for nearly 6 years now and have a 3gig cap with them which i pay R299 a month for. Thats R100 a gig:(:(! For that price i can get 5gigs from Axxess DSL.

My question is, why the hell is MWEB so expensive? I have to admit however that in the 6years i have had ADSL with them i have had very few to no problems and that there service centre must be one of the best.

I am really feeling abit ripped off now. Should i change to Axxess (and lose a very important email address of mine) or should i wait for Seacom to come into play properly (i hope with in the next two months) and take it from there?

Thanks guys, your opinions would be great.

The saying 'you get what you pay for' comes to mind.

Pay cheap, get cheap shyte *think of Neotel*

Pay a bit more, get good service *starts to miss Telkom*

Mweb gives you an FTP server, where you can host a small website, and gives you 300 mins of wifi which you can use at all IS Wifi Hotspots.

If you don't use the Wifi then consider switching.
As for your email, that's one of the problems when using an ISP email addie for improtant purposes.
I can suggest paying a 3rd party for an email addie or use a free one like gmail.

The account for axxess will either be saix (Telkom) or IS based, which is not cheap.

I switched from MWeb some time back - same cost issues; paying for stuff I didn't need.
But you don't need to give up your existing email address. MWeb will let you keep ONE mailbox for something like R39/month - not great value, but convenient while you try to migrate all your mail to your new ISP (or Gmail, or Live Mail, or...).
For what it's worth, I'm now with Nexus ISP, using their semi-shaped (IS fibre) offering.
R399 gets us 7 GB international, 7GB local. So far so good...

I also left M-Web at the end of my ISDN era. I did however keep my Wifi, 5 email addresses, fax numbers, and 3 hours of dialup a month as backup for about R70 per month with M-Web. I am with SAOL.com and I get 11GB for R499 (I got an additioanal 1GB free for switching my ADSL line rental to them as well). The ADSL works great on the SAIX network on a 4Mbps line. Total bill with SAOL is R 855.00 as it runs through my business so line rental is a bit more expensive.

interesting. Is Mweb with IS or SAIX?

Also switched from Mweb a little while ago. They obviously see it as a value added charge cause theres lots of things like wifi, fax to email and the like. Also left cause i didnt see it as worth while.
I can see it being worthwhile for someone whos not that tech savvy though because you have all the support you need in one place and can direct all your swearing and complaints at one person :)

Just send everyone in your address list the new e-mail you get with another ISp,,i would'nt pay 300 bucks if everyong else is dropping their prices and mweb is'nt.

I left mweb 2 months ago after 9 years and quite frankly I don't know why I waited so long to move (oh wait it was the 2 YEAR contract that you HAVE to sign to get ADSL with them...wtf). Then came the sweet talk to try and get you to stay, then the hostility when you don't.
