MWEB and IS optimistic about WiMax possibilities

So Telkom can do it but Neotel are still waiting for spectrum.

What are the line rental charges? :D - I mean, you don't need a telephone line. Will Telkom include the R99 line rental charge in Wimax. They will just incorporate the line rental into the access price for Wimax. ADSL is R99 + R245. So maybe Wimax will be -+R350 for the access. :D Mark my words. ;)

I think this will put IS network under the spot light but at the same time I can foresee alot of complaints coming in to ISP's about slow connections when there are alot of users being serviced in a single area. Hopefully Telkom will be fielding these calls. heck it will be even harder to distinguish between IS slowness and busy base station.. unless telkom are willing to tell clients the station is overloaded

It would be nice to know the connection ration per base station.

Wimax is 70Mbps per base station, right?
They're doing 512k per user. So 70000 / 512 = 140.
Max of 140 per base station (BS for short, I guess)

How exactly is Telkom going to make this a reality? They don't even have enough competent staff members to deal with the not so difficult task of 'pulling wire' ( :D ), how the heck are they going to deal with radio waves?

Long ADSL installation times are often cited as the reason for consumers opting for other broadband services like iBurst or HSDPA, and the launch of WiMax may result in a faster broadband growth and more customers for both Telkom and their reseller partners.

Its not only that its the DAM PRICES!!!!!!!!!!!

FFS!! when are they ever going to learn that????!

If Telkom management was up to speed we would not see such long installation times anyway, those twats entrenched most of their staff a while back remember???? ---> the stupidity just gets worse

i can almost bet that wimax is going to cost way more, but being wireless how secure is it? ....airsnort

WiMax air traffic is encrypted using DES or AES, so no airsnorty for you. Typicaly sector capacity is around 24mbps.
