Now i understand that mweb shapes there P2P like demons and i understand that im only on a uncapped 384k line, but come on, a week to download only 50% of something (3.5gb)? i know it picks up at night bla bla bla but this is insane... or am i the only one?

my lil laptop is on 24/7 as a result just cause the stuff crawls along <10kB/s office hours and around 50kB/s after, then max 110 at like 3 in the morning if i'm lucky... 4M line btw...

I don't use torrents anymore, but just from the mweb news server I have managed 39gb down this month on a 384 line. No complaints here.

my torrents max out at 390+ every night, seldom dips below 300+

yeah after hours it goes near max speed or max speed, but i will stick to my payed news server :)

newshost to get nzb files, but you need inv also.

a server self you need to pay for like 10 dollars, this enable you to download 800 days old files as they cache up to 800 days or more.

btw guide me towards some decent free news servers pretty please? i know of nzbsa but what are the good international ones?

Eish, dunno buddy. I use torrents when I need to get my favourite linux iso's.

there are certain things which seem so much easier to get through torrents though where torrents are free and news servers arent...

Well the MWeb news server is free. Torrents are very easy though, but filehosts (try searching at filestube.com) also work better than torrents on MWeb.

yea i love filestube its just sometimes with the larger files they dont always seem to work so well, and my speeds arent always so great... but anyway, i finally found what i wanted to download at alt.binaries.cd.image... now probably some noob questions: will this file be on the mweb news server as i believe all the servers basically just mirror each other? please correct me if im wrong... and secondly, whats the retention on the mweb server

News servers do have mirroring of sorts, although I do not understand the concept very well
MWEB news server retention is not high (its not 800 days that I can tell you)

Mweb retention is about 230-250 days approx.
Nzbs can be found on binsearch.info (trickier to use), nzbmatrix.com (access to 20 day old nzb's for free) and http://www.newshost.co.za/

The reason i ask is im trying to download something 44 days old and its not going good at all... a couple of kb every now and then, whereas something 21 days old is flying, both found on binsearch

I use:
MWEB
NZBMatrix VIP (800+Days Retention, access to API for Auto Downloads)
SABnzbd+ - Auto Downloader app
SickBeard - tells SABnzbd+ what Series + Adds series information etc ect
CouchPotato - tells SABnzbd+ what Movies to download and adds info
