MWEB Customer, @Iafrica.com e-mail address.(Also MWEB ADSL customer)

From my office, using Telkom ISP on Telkom ADSL.
Thunderbird 7.0.1
Outgoing Server Name: smtp.mweb.co.za on port 25, with no authentication.

Used to work perfectly, until last Thursday.
I hoped the problem will resolve itself, but 5 days later I can still not send mail.
Incoming works fine.
?

Tried all suggestions I could find on forum and web, still no luck.
Mailed MWEB twice = No Response (yet).

Anybody have any new suggestions?

It's not your software, it's on their side. Most probably, you had your domain registered through them, and have since then moved your domain to a different service provider? MWEB doesn't always delete all the accounts they need to (DNS/Mail) so when you do try to send an email from your account, even if it's through their mail server, it will do this ****.

Best is to contact the ISP and your hosting provider.

No. Why would Mweb allow a Telkom ISP user to use their mailservers?
If you're using telkom ADSL, use Telkom's outgoing mailserver. (smtp.saix.net or something).

Can't imagine it working as intended ever with these settings unless it was redirected

Use smtp.saix.net

OK. Thanx for ALL the responses. Changed to Telkom's Saix. Works fine.

Still do not understand, used to work fine through MWEB for many years until now.

Thanx again.

Did you not perhaps have SMTP authentication configured before? Then it should work.

you cant use port 25 for smtp.mweb.co.za, it is blocked on there network.

I think you'll find that mweb blocks its adsl customers from making connections to the outside world on port 25. They won't have blocked connections from the outside world to their SMTP server - else people would never get their mail.

Try using SMTP Port 587 - does that help?

The fact that there is a relay-access denied message coming back means that the connection to the mail server was successful but the server itself rejected the mail.

The OP has reported that his problem was solved by using the appropriate SMTP server for his ISP.

Hi ttygt

We used to have something called DNS views in place dating back to when we were reselling SAIX connectivity, which would have redirected connections to smtp.mweb.co.za to the smtp.saix.net (I hope that makes sense)

It's possible that some of these views are still functional on the SAIX network, but they are not actively maintained which means an update to their DNS servers could have 'broken' it.

The correct way to use an MWEB smtp server from off the network is to enable authentication - either on port 25, or port 587 as was suggested in one of the above responses.

Your username and password for authentication is the same as you use for incoming mail.

Hope that clears things up for you.

Kind Regards
Will
