Just received this notice. Not sure where to put it...

Dear MWEB Customer,

We have entered into an agreement whereby Internet Solutions will acquire MWEB as a going concern. The transaction is subject to approval by the competition authorities and we expect this process to take between 2 and 4 months to conclude.

Your current service with MWEB will not be affected by this change.

Internet Solutions (part of the Dimension Data group) is firmly established as a leading provider of information, technology and communication services in the SMME and enterprise markets. This partnership will give us an increased presence in the consumer segment of the market and allow us to grow our product and services offering.

We appreciate and value your business and we will continue to provide you with quality, secure and affordable broadband connectivity.

If you have any questions related to this transaction, please do not hesitate to contact us through our normal support channels.

Kind regards,
Derek Hershaw
CEO

Maybe a dumb question, but why is this a bad thing?

With the "restructuring" currently taking place after the acquisition of MWEB Business the level of support that IS currently provides leaves much to be desired.

With this new acquisition I have no doubt that more "restructuring" will take place leaving Joe-Soap MWEB user up the creek without a paddle. The impact will not be immediate but it will be inevitable.

Restructuring is a nice way of saying retrenching

Mixed feelings, IS has been the best backbone I have ever been on compared to Afrihost. So it should be a good thing, however IS ain't cheap so expect price increases, but then again neither was Mweb.

You cannot compare IS and Afrihost.

Afrihost don't provide their own bandwidth.

They buy in bulk from the likes of IS and Neotel...

I'm saying IS was the best backbone (WA and Mweb) I've ever been on compared to AF (whichever one they use since they chop and change)

Its interesting because back in the day Mweb was the only other ISP to use Telkom backbone when everyone was on cheap and nasty IS.

Interesting...

One could see it coming after Mweb Business was sold.

Good for IS. Could be potentially good or bad for current Mweb subscribers.

Although I must admit I always hoped Naspers would combine Mweb and Multichoice to make a true triple play offering.

Guess not.

I only have a mweb email accounts (me and the wife) for R29pm. Hopefully this does not affect me much.

Why would you pay for a service that is subpar to something that you can get for free? Gmail for storage and something like protonmail for security.... all free?

Can only improve Mweb. But will not ever use them again.
