MWeb arrogantly changing accounts?

I used to have a 5GB 4Mbps MWeb account until this month.
Having noticed a strange speed decrease I discover my account has been downgraded to uncapped 384kbps without my consent.
Strangely my router still syncs at 4096 but my throughput is definitely 384kpbs.
Am I the only person to whom this has happened?

Your router will always sync at the speed Telkom have you set for, the ISP then limits you.
That said, I only joined MWEB this month, so I'm afriad I can't help you there - but I'm pretty sure they can't do that. Perhaps it was through error, just give them a call.

Can you clarify how you know your package has been changed? Is it on this page:
http://myadsl.mweb.co.za/Main.aspx

I was (and still remain) on 5GB 4Mbps MWeb as well (All-Inclusive R579pm). I didn't ask them to change me, and so far they haven't changed me (I would not be happy with a 384Kbps speed).

I have had speed issues, but these were teething problems (at first), then problems with international websites, which turns out to be an obsolete browser vs proxy/cache issue. What browser are you using?

Yes, it's on that page, bottom right where it says Account Information. Mine now says "You are currently registered on an Uncapped 384-incl DSL line rental product."

Which is, in fact, not what I'm registered for.

Well then how about this...

Phone their support desk and get them to change it back... it might just have been a clerical error.

Hi ad_oz,

You should not have been automatically migrated. Please PM me your ADSL login or email addr and I will chase it up for you.

MWB.

Thanks a lot MWEB - seriously impressed - but not to worry.
I'll give them a shout tomorrow morning - I was irritated that I only noticed outside of call centre hours.

Do you know if there has been any auto upgrading of late from 1GB accounts to 2GB accounts?
Hi Abe,

Let me check for you, btw are you on an All-Inclusive or Data-Only Account?

MWB.

It's not my account. It's my father in law. His is a data only account. He only uses about 600meg per month and all of a sudden has a 2GB limit.

I thought only the All-Inclusive was being upgraded. I am still waiting for my account to be upgraded. There is no option for a 1Gb All-Inclusive on the MWEB website anymore.

Hi Abe,

Yes some of the capped-to-capped type account migration has begun. The bulk of it will be performed end of this week, begining of next week.

MWB.
