I wondered why, if Mweb do have their own backbone as per RPM report and Telkom ADSL office, do they not compete against Telkom. They could have won over many clients. Are they also on SAIX ie Telkom?

If any ISP's realy had their OWN backbone I dont realy think we would be so pationate about VANS self provision :)

They probly have their own "setup" which is rented from telescum.

No - they do not have their own backbone. They use the IS backbone.

There are only three tier-1 ISPs in South Africa: IS, UUNET and SAIX.

they *do* have their own interconnections - but since they still provision these from Telkom along with IPC etc, how do you expect them to compete?

No, MWEB don't have their own IPC facility. And they don't use IS. MWEB resell SAIX accounts. Why do you think they "suddenly" offered hard capping on 1st Nov like all the other SAIX resellers? Their dial-ups and hosting infrastructure are IS based, but not their ADSL.

mweb dont really do anything themselves, dialups are all IS as far as I know, adsl is telkom.. why spend all the money doing it yourself when you can just piggy back off someone else and sell it like your own :)

Who is SA's internet backbone? Like who do the Seacom lines go through?
