Mweb Capped accounts ridiculous prices

Is it just me or is the pricing on Mweb's capped products ridiculously high?

If looking the prices of just the 10gb accounts here are the current prices for them and 2 competitors.

10gb Capped

Mweb - R190 pm

Openweb - R49 pm

Afrihost - R49

So basically Mweb is almost 4 times more expensive than those two competitors.

The Afrihost and Openweb accounts even allow 2 or more concurrent connections where Mweb allows only one connection at a time. Why on earth does Mweb only allow one concurrent connection when this is a capped account for which you pay?

What happened to the Mweb of old who had competitive prices???

My advice to new clients... look elsewhere.
Dont let them tell you you are paying more for their excellent service. Some of their competitors have excellent customer service as well.

My advice to Mweb? Wake up and get back in the game.

Back in the days of ISDN Mweb was more than 4x the cost of other ISP's. They are improving it seems ...
 
I think it is just a case of mweb not fighting hard for the capped market. While I do not overly like Mweb the capped market is dying. But if it is what you are looking for then yes the others beat mweb hands down :)
 
Yes but they offer throttling for free. Value add you know.
 
MWeb charge R190 for 10GB?
Jeez I almost download that per DAY on OpenWeb uncapped, which costs roughly the same (R229) :p

I think they trying to sell their uncapped more than capped....

I reckon it's tot to do with profits ... The guys are screwing uncapped for Rands per Gig returns and probably capped too. Put an accountant in charge and customers become a problem;)

If they ARE trying to sell uncapped well they are going about in a VERY strange fashion......

I laughed at this topic... But I thought about it and - With so many people going to capped 3G why push it when you can push them into uncapped that is not available on 3G? There is a bigger market and demand for uncapped services opposed to 3G capped and ADSL capped.

If you look at any of their marketing collateral MWEB has put up on websites or tv's you will see it is for uncapped. They already have a large capped customer base providing a substantial income at the current rates. Those customers are your everyday internet user who are not all per say internet savvy. So just like the people that stuck with Vodacom and MTN after Cell C introduced the 15c per mb these people will stick with MWEB - It wouldn't be worth it to reduce those prices if their marketing aims at luring customers in with Uncapped. They lose out on revenue and then they have to start an aggressive capped marketing campaign to re-coop those costs. One could argue that the price decrease could in turn attract more customers? But I believe that is far from the case...

3G cost for 10Gb is R197 with AH on the MTN network. Month to month.

ADSL cost for 10Gb on a 1mbps speed is R392. Month to month.

And on a 4mbps speed (which is close to what customers get on 3G) = R652. Month to month.

3G is more cost effective in this example but if you start scaling it upward you will see that 3G becomes less and less cost effective the higher the capped product goes.

It is in this that I say that in SA the capped ADSL market is really only cost effective from the 20Gb - 75Gb range after that uncapped becomes more cost effective or 3G if you use 10gb or less.

So I believe they wont drop the prices purely because of 3G's popularity and the income that they are making off their existing capped client base.

I understand that perfectly. But surely they are now not offering a all round competitive product. What about the people who only need a capped account cheap? If mweb does not offer this then they will leave to a competitor that does offer them what they are looking for.

In my case I'm moving my parents away from mweb because mweb is not offering them this product which is what they need and want.
 
I agree with you fully.

However - The amount of people that want those small capped accounts are but a niche of the whole market.

For these big businesses its about fishing were the money is good.

Having said that - It is inevitable and MWEB will eventually have to drop the pricing for capped data bundles. But when - That we wont know
 
They did say that cap accounts is a dying breed, I mean who needs capped when there is uncapped and very special uncapped: throttled.
 
MWEB's 10gig capped product is only R7 cheaper than Afrihost's 10 gig product
except that with Afrihost you don't have to pay for analogue voice or DSL connection and you can take it anywhere

Provided there is MTN signal ;)

I wonder if MWEB will follow suite and introduce their own APN product.. hmmm
