MWEB Complaints

sometimes people have difficulty connecting to the network, and the problem often lies with the service provider. hence the need for local customer support. i will in no way support telkom's premium 0861/0862 numbers or exhorbitant long distance charges, and im sure most people feel the same way too.

The 0860 number is a sharecall number. It doesn't matter where you are in the country, you only pay for a local call.

We (Hyperlink), and I am sure some of the other service providers have a 0860 support numbers.

At this point, I believe that these bigger caps are not on offer to mweb. This is from a reliable source. Everyone knows that this price war is coming to an end in 3 months, when telkom announce their new billing system.

Personally, I'd like to see what they do when the paying field is level, ie: same deal for all isp's, which is currently NOT the case. It's been mentioned that the bigger caps are mainly as a result of a loophole in telkom's system. You can't very well expect Mweb to exploit a loophole, can you? Unlike the smaller isp's, mweb can't afford to do things that are not in writing from telkom.

I also don't see anywhere on Telkom Internet's adsl page any mention of a cap bigger than 4 gigs.

Like ernstn suggested, you should really consider getting your own domain, I have been doing this for years, which has freed me from being tied into one ISP because of an email address.

I used to be an mweb member, but left them because I did not agree with there policy on blocking particular sites to non mweb members. I got the feeling they where trying to create there own little monopoly.

So free yourself, its not that difficult.

Go along to http://www.co.za/ and register a co.za domain for R100.00 which includes R50.00 for your first year, then it is R50.00 a year after that.

Or, go to http://www.za.net/ and get a completely free domain.

Host your domain wherever you like, with this you can also pick and choose, look hard enough and you can do it for free as well, just beware of what you are agreeing to.

Go to http://www.hetzner.co.za/ and host your domain for R19.00 per month, you will even have a bit of webspace to play with.

Or http://www.dataspace.co.za/ and host it for free, but consider signing up for there basic hosting for R10.00 per month. They seem to be a company worth supporting.

You will have many more options with your own domain, you can do things like:
Route is through http://www.zoneedit.com/ (For free) and have sub domains. For example, if I browse to http://www.MYDOMAIN.za.net, I go to my hosted site, but if I browse to http://pc.MYDOMAIN.za.net it routes it through to my PC at home, through Dynamic DNS of course. I can remote my pc by just browsing to http://pc.MYDOMAIN.za.net/tsweb from anywhere.

So go ahead and free yourself, its not that difficult or expensive.

Have Fun.

everytime I had a problem, they referred me to Telkom
this sounds all too familiar, they insist the problem is with telkom, and telkom insists its with mweb. the main problem is email addresses. if i change my email address i would have to change my sister's email as well since we both use the same account. we were with netactive and everything was fine until mweb acquired them and started dictating rules. will look at registering a domain though ;) bye bye MonopolyWEB

Vquest, if a few of us follow your suggestion we could fly up one of the Axxess/Webafrica techs once every couple of months..... :-)

Highflyer_GP you can still host your e-mail with mweb (even if that means you have to have a dial-up account) and use a different ISP for connectivity. I'm not sure of the chargest but I can find out - some of our clients have telkom adsl accounts but host their mail at mweb. They have their own domains, of course, but I'm sure you can host mweb addresses with them.

Also, as for support, there are other options. The ISP will only give you telephonic support, unless you pay per hour (if they even offer that) for on site support - for that matter you can just as well call us, we do adsl in our sleep. Axxess even have a page called "local ADSL technicians" for specifically this purpose.

I am as pi$$ off with Mweb, sitting with the same problem - problem is the e-mail address - having used the same one for over 10 years.
Would it help to start on online petition?

Tiscali forces you into a 12 month contract on their ADSL accounts. I've still got 6 months to go. I've also e-mailed them about their cap and the different offers available from other ISP’s. They did not even bother to reply.

Is there any way I can get out of this contract?

I was with Tiscali before I got my ADSL. When I heard about their 12 month contract I moved over to TelkomInternet because it was a lot cheaper AND there was no contract.

There is usually a way to get out of a contract but it usually means you have to pay your way out. I suggest you contact them to make sure.

Contracts are a NO-NO.

Mweb sucks

MWEB sucked when I lived in SA for a few months several years ago, they were like the only ISP to offer dial-up service at the time, although I did not look very hard for others ...

Guess the legacy lives on then.

loving my Axxess account so much just cancelled Mweb forever.

I must admit evrytime I phoned axxess for support they asked me my number and phoned me back. Highflyer please drop mweb i cant stand another myadsl member getting ripped off.

they on their way out. i just hope every other mweb subscriber would cancel theirs too, and give these clowns a big wake up call

well,I finally recieved a reply from mweb, apparently they "understand my frustration" and have forwarded my email to someone else....
I basically gave them an ultimatum that if prices do not decrease on the 1st August im leaving mweb, which I plan to do anyways.....not much I can do,supose it isnt much to them to lose one customer....Ive done what I can to make them aware...the rest is on them....I can say I do not recomend Mweb, theyre kinda like trying to get through to telkom on the phone.....u get the run around
cya

ok i just cancelled with mweb and signed up with hyperlink. a little appreciation for them taking the 1st step to reducing prices and getting the price wars underway. in any case their prices are the same as axxess

hows this. mweb didnt even contact me to confirm my request for cancellation. they just merrily deleted all my accounts so the first i knew of it was my outlook telling me their servers were not reponding.
WELL DONE DUDES!!! AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
