Surely it depends on what you use it for. I only really use download for streaming, etc. so while I'm a little miffed they just decided to change my product without consultation, 2Mbps will probably work fine for me.

How will 2Mbps vs 5 Mbps work out better for MWEB. How does it benefit them?
Is the risk of pissing of your customers really worth it?

It's not up to you. If you use any modern service, Netflix, Google, Alexa, Chromecast, Google Drive, Dropbox, Windows anything modern then upload speeds have a direct impact. The world is not offline anymore every service wants to send data back every android and iOS device calls home with real data.

Alexa is a sketchy lady she calls AWS a lot (upload).

So with 2 android flagships, google chromecast and 1 amazon echo my 10Mbps upload on my VDSL line is pretty much maxed out.

Waiting for 4 or so years now for SADV to complete their installation here (incompetence does not begin to describe it), just wish there was a way to get OpenServe here and then I would go through Web Africa they are on openserve R900 for 100/50.

Then it's better to rather go for the 10/5 line with Mind The Speed for R460.
 
I also have a 40meg vdsl line and pay about R1350p/m which is ridiculous. Openserve taking their own bloody time to move my area over to fibre. I would take a 100/100 or 200/100 or 200/200 easily if I had fibre.

I cannot run 4k properly due to my limited speeds wth about 10 devices connected.

People in fibre areas running 10 or 20meg is an insult to the infrastructure. What irks me even more are 5 providers all trenching or wanting to roll out fibre in the same bloody roads.

Even Mitchell's Plain of all areas are running fibre :X3:

I don't know what they slashed it feels like a paid for article because Web Africa and Afrihost and RSA web is cheaper than MWEB on openserve plus they all have higher upload speeds.

So yea, not sure what the point of this article was other than to highlight that MWEB is not an ISP for the modern user.
 
Imagine being throttled on your fibre connection in 2019...or any year for that matter.
Let's not forget when MWEB throttled customers after a few months of baiting them on to uncapped when it launched.
I still get a much better deal with my ISP for cheaper than those measly offerings.

You'd be able to watch netflix at 2160p on one device with 20/2 I could get that. Currently on Mwebs 50/50 and I'm not throttled ever from what I can see.
 
Do these prices include data or is it line rental only?
 
@MWEBHelp for existing clients on capped fibre will their accounts be migrated? I am on the 40/20 200GB account?

Ermmm ... no they not. Looking at Fibre ( Openserve in the area ) for my folks at the moment and had a look at all three ISP portals. MWEB`s cheaper than the rest. What am I missing ? I don`t care much for upload speeds.

Mweb is not cheaper than Web Africa on openserve.
 
Web Africa is bad . They have a better upload then MWEB but 100gb limit on the uncapped package wtf . Check their fup on their site

WHAT THE FUP IS A FUP?
We currently offer two uncapped categories on Openserve - Uncapped, and Uncapped Premium. Our Uncapped packages carry a FUP threshold (see below), while our Uncapped Premium packages have no threshold.
Please Note: We only apply our FUP on our Uncapped packages on the Openserve infrastructure. No other providers have a FUP threshold.
Good to Know: If you are on one of our packages which carries a FUP, your usage between midnight and 06:00 am every day does not affect your rolling FUP threshold. So, if you are planning downloads make sure you schedule them for these times, and they won't have an impact on your FUP status
