Hi Guys,

I recently got the following mail from Mweb:

Dear MWEB Member

Your account has been highlighted as an excessive usage account for the month of April 2009 and is currently under investigation. We consider your current usage of the ADSL service to be in breach of our terms and conditions. If you continue to use your account in this manner we will suspend your account without any further notice to you.

Kind regards
MWEB Member Services

I dont want to bring up old arguments about how the service is to provide unlimited local bandwidth for the month of April (i did over 300Gb since it was the last month of service, just downloading, no uploading though) and such things, but what is the worst that can happen in this case because the i am not the accountholder for the mweb account that i use?

I also want to know whether it is my right to argue the point that Mweb stated that there will be unlimited local bandwidth (with no upper limit) so in that sense nothing can be done to the account?

Can somebody also tell me what "currently under investigation" means because i do not want to cause trouble of any kind to the account holder

I wouldnt worry too much. The unlimited local usage is over at the end of the month anyway.

I kept mine under 100 Gb this month. Gets cut off on the first anyway since I canceled it. MWeb can go suck eggs. I am done with DSTV/M-web/Naspers. Bunch of crooks and greedy scum suckers.

Quick to use and abuse, but when they start charging you - they crooks and greedy scum suckers eh ;)

the service was promoted as unlimited local usage. They are the ones who cut people off for using unlimited. Are we wrong to complain that they have done that? Please tell me how I "abused" an unlimited service??? enlighten us, please?

They left it uncapped for a very long time and you guys ravaged the hell outta it.
Now they stopped it and you're all pissy about it.
Telkom did the same thing.

It was bound to happen - just accept it and move on and start paying for it.

where did we say we were complaining about them changing it? That was there prerogative. It was just a trial anyway. What we were complaining about was the way in which they did it (the confusing statements and threatening people who downloaded "too much" and then charging 3c per megabyte).

They have every right to change the service. But they are quite open to criticism for the manner in which they do it. This was a "free country" the last time I checked.

Or are you saying we should never criticise anybody when it comes to telecoms? Just take it nicely in the .... ???

In case you forgot... it was ICASA in 2006 who ruled that "local bandwidth should be uncapped". What does that regulation mean to you?

Does "uncapped local bandwidth" = 10 Gb and 3c extra thereafter to you?

What language do you speak?

I would reply asking them to provide you the relevant part of the ToC they are using to determine excessive usage.

Gdiza you forget that you complain about neotel... They ADVERTISE a certain speed for their prime, but then you dont get it and complain. Mweb ADVERTISED unlimited and cut people off but WE cant complain.. How does that work lol? Just thought id even things here :-)

MWEB: heroes to zeros in my books.

Going to be difficult keeping to 30GB each month now... <sniff>

I do agree that the way MWEB has gone about changing their service has been a bit dodgy, but I for one am glad!

How much do you people honestly leech? Ever heard of portable hard drives? Or lans?

I don't know about you guys but why not co-ordinate with your friends so that you all don't dl the same junk! Yes, some of it is PURE RUBBISH like the Metal Man movie someone uploaded to Newshost!

I don't leech that much, and don't find ways to hog all the news server bandwidth for myself. Since MWEB cancelled their uncapped the news server has been flying and you can connect at any time during the unshaped hours and get a connection. So for those of us who aren't downloading porn/series/movies (most of which we'll never watch) 24/7 this has actually been a blessing!

what a bloody cheek , its almost a threatening letter, we are investigating your usage, ROFLMAO, nice way to scare off customers

eg, weve noticed youve come in and drunk quite a few cups of our bottomless cup of coffee this month mr smith, you are under investigation for high drinkage rates....pathetic!, dump the account, next!

I have been with MWEB since I first got dial-up which was an eternity ago. Now I am moving to WA because, quite honestly, their prices are rediculous. And now this just adds another reason to my list. Yes the writing was on the wall when they said unlimited local bandwidth, I knew they were going to have problems. I pulled 100GB i think.
