Hi Everyone

I'm starting this thread in an attempt to keep track of specific concerns regarding gaming on our network and to provide feedback on these items.

Pleeeeease :D don't hijack this thread with general discussion and customer service issues - we have a thread for that.

To try and keep some structure to this discussion I will edit the 2nd Post in the thread as a current issue list, so before you post on something please read this to see if it's already been raised.

Thanks Will

Current Issues Under Discussion

  • High Latency in MMO games, seems to occur after hours - we are investigating

As per the first update above a small change was made to Steam signatures last night.

I'm very keen to hear if this has made any difference to those who were reporting slow logins on Steam.

I'm not sure... will check tonight.... I usually just leave my steam running & logged in 24/7. But the times that I have restarted it it did take an awful long time to log in... Pings were a little unstable recently, will also have to keep an eye on that. Still using the SAIX login tho, will that make a difference to the said changes?

Hi IRG

Yes these changes are specific to our IPC network.

In any event our Cape Town IPC went live over the weekend and is already being utilized so it really should be a matter of days before we start the process of bringing everyone back onto our network :)

Looking forward to your feedback.

I would like to bring up an issue if I may. I have been having latency issues on League of Legends particularly at night time.

My 'normal' ping is around 280-320 and at night or some days it can spike to around 600-700 which is hard to play.

I will try again this evening and report my ping.

Hi Will,

Are there any plans to unshape World of Warcraft traffic to the EU realms (where I'm sure 90% of South African players play).

Here are the EU WOW IP Ranges:
62.67.44.0/24
62.67.45.0/24
213.248.122.0/24
213.248.123.0/24
80.239.148.0/24
80.239.149.0/24
80.239.178.0/24
80.239.179.0/24
80.239.181.0/24
80.239.184.0/24
80.239.185.0/24
80.239.232.0/24
80.239.233.0/24

WoW itself uses very little traffic in general, (usually about 15MB - 18MB of data transfer per/hour). It does feels a bit unfair to be shaped, considering the low bandwidth usage.

thanks,
Dave

Awesome, I was wondering why @dslmweb was actually faster than the SAIX domain for once. Please let us know when you do move everyone over, some of us will still be on @mweb through our routers.

I have the 384 uncapped service and have been using it since June. My flatmate and I play Bad Company 2 online a lot. We were able to play together at the same time with no trouble whatsoever. Sometime in August things got terrible. We weren't able to game at the same time anymore. When both of us played, our pings went through the roof (up to 900) and eventually one of us would leave.

This was temperamental. Some nights we could game for hours without getting crazy pings, and other nights were shocking. I have noticed it is much better and haven't had the trouble I had before, but I also game a lot less now. I'll probably try it out tonight and the rest of the week and report back with my findings.

I call thread hijack :p, but yes IPC based users in Cape Town have already been cut over - no client side changes required.

I think two players doing Bad Company on a 384k might be pushing the envelope a little as the game is quite intense and on a full server there is a lot going on. Perhaps we can get some general feedback from other BC2 players if anyone else is doing this and what their experience is?

Hi Pooky

Is this not related to your general latency issues at the moment though? Are there any other League of Legends players out there with a similar experience?

Yeah it is probably. :D But it is an issue I am getting. If you can't sort it out, I'm not going to blame you guys. :)

I really have to remember which browser I have open when I post :D

i had issued last night logging into Ubisoft's server for rainbow 6 vegas 2. will check if it happens again, then i'll do a tracert or at least supply the login server's ip.

@Necuno

Thanks, the more info you can give us about what the game is trying to connect to the better.
