Guild Wars ping is pathetic.

Isengard you're going to have to help me out here. the pings in the trace are exactly what you should expect from a European connection. What happens when you play the game? Are the problems constant, or intermittent and if so at what times of the day?

Maybe you should look at the 2nd hop instead, 35ms. So his exchange seems pretty busy.

Well its intermittent. It spikes badly from 350ms to 17000ms and this is from 6pm to around 9pm and leaves the game completely unplayable. If I switch to our backup Web Africa account then all is normal again and I then get a constant ping of 300ms or lower.

I'm scratching my head on that one and it's a similar experience to what Sillicur is reporting in WoW please PM me your account details and I'll enable monitoring for you and then I would suggest that you keep track of when you play over the weekend so I can examine the traffic. I'm afraid it won't be sooner as I'm out of the office for parts of the rest of this week.

If your still struggling to play WoW, look up Battleping. Keep reporting your Mweb gaming related problems here so hopefully Will can get it sorted out, but using Battleping bypasses all WoW related shaping and should solve your problems. I've been using it the past few weeks with excellent results (as long as there isn't a bigger problem like a busted undersea cable), 250ms-300ms EU realms stable.

@Blackhand - Thanks mate, will look into it. Used to use gamemax until that stopped lets just say "working optimally"... lol. And lowerping for a while as well

@Will@MWEB - After the resync to 4MB from telkom I've been getting 10:00 - 11:59 135KB/s down on my WoW update. The Blizzard update servers use the same ports (for the most part. think its 6881-6999 and 1120 that they dont share with the wow servers.) Are these speeds what I can expect from the mweb connection during the day (uhm i know that sounds like im being a c0k, but I'm not. lol). I know you said the WoW ports were unshaped. Are they Unshaped throughout the day? I'm just a bit paranoid that this DL won't finish before raid tonight ^^ :D I'm sure many a WoW player will know what I'm feeling. rofl. Thanks for the feedback so far Will, much appreciated ;).

What Telkom doesn't understand is that most of the people get that problems do occur, but don't keep the public in the dark about it. Tell us what's going on. Seacom are good at this. Oh sorry cable break there and there. This is our ETA on repairs. And then update as they go along. "bad weather delaying our efforts to repair line. blah blah blah." thumbs up for that!!! bad Telkom! very bad! :D

peace

Hi Forsaken and other MMOers

I've just come back from a detailed flyover of the current state of the network and everything looks very good from our side. All of the links are humming along comfortably and they really are in the final stages of tweaks and minor performance tuning, which as I've said is really leaving me puzzled about the in-game experience you guys are having right now. I do have a WoW player in one of my teams though who is reporting a similar experience so I will be running some tests with him tonight to see if we can isolate a possible cause for this.

Prior to the upgrade my understanding was that the EU based WoW players were 'relatively' happy and as I've confirmed today we have not adjusted any traffic priorities - it's just the amount of bandwidth available in the various pools that has been increased. I will do my best to try and get to the bottom of this though - please bear with me.

In terms of the patch delivery itself the understanding I got from him is that it has both an http and an actual P2P component to the update that runs. This could very well be problematic as if it's using standard P2P signatures it might not be possible to separate this from normal P2P and reduce the shaping on it. He did tell me that he was seeing speeds of up to 40K on 384k line so perhaps this is not too much of a problem?

Don't know if you've already done it or if it's still an option but when I used to play WoW there was an option in the updater to turn off P2P and force http downloading. It made a huge difference in speed when I did that.

Thanks for the feedback Will.

The problem I am currently having is that I've been downloading the update since yesterday afternoon, on a 4Mbps line........it is now 15h33 and its only 57% complete.

I havent seen any speed higher than 60Kpbs. Even the HTTP Direct download is dog slow.

Please look into this as I get a chill when it says " About 43 hours remaining"

Whats the deal here:

I was trying to download the latest WOW patch with my mweb account earlier with p2p enabled it was horrible and http download nothing flows through. Switch to a SAIX account and everything is amazing download speeds.

Are mweb accounts not gaming friendly? Are they only for hardcore torrent and news ppl.

I also asked mweb about lotro another game I play as apparently they were looking into this as a performance issue - but no answer.

Seriously - genuine customer, genuine gamer, genuine terrible MWEB.

WoW Latency sky high

Since Tuesday my latency on wow has gone up to 8000ms +. When I log onto telkom account it works like a bom with a 280 - 290 ms latency but soon as I switch to Mweb it goes up to 8000ms and more... please sort out!

Since Tuesday my latency on wow has gone up to 8000ms +. When I log onto telkom account it works like a bom with a 280 - 290 ms latency but soon as I switch to Mweb it goes up to 8000ms and more... please sort out!

Yeh zappers, i think allot of us are experiencing it, a friend of mine also has the same issue, but just doesnt have an account on these forums. My problem has persisted like this for a month now. Made an account and Willy is looking into it, hopefully our problem can get fixed !

Btw, i see that during the day (peak times) its fine, after 6pm till late at night (which should be offpeak and faster times) the ping shoots up like that. Maybe that bit of info can help in some way.

I have two WOW players on my network who are reporting the same problem since Tuesday. If I switch to my WebAfrica back-up account, in game latency is 270-500 ms. On MWeb it is 6000ms-11000ms, and unplayable. Yet everything else on MWeb is performing well.

Is anyone currently experiencing this very high latency in MMO's in the North? I get the impression most of you are in the Cape?
