Clarify 'gaming' traffic

MMORPG / FPS (Any specific games ?)
Steam / BattleNet ? (Any particular client ?)

Hi Everyone

The engineers made some changes this morning to give increased priority to gaming traffic. Please let me know if there is any change in your experience tonight.

Kind Regards
Will

Thanks, will have a look tonight.

Anything classed as gaming traffic :) The traffic manager works on packet signatures and categorizes the traffic accordingly. It has an extensive database of known signatures.

duud, can you leave this post please coz u are trolling, u are not contributing in ANY way to help solve this problem....lemme fix it for u....cancel ur MWEB account and go to axxess or some other crappy ISP, but please stop trolling...

Your posts are all complaints about Mweb. Am I competition?
Look, Mweb is bad for gaming. Games ARE shaped despite what they claim. They never going to change despite the promises.
We all agreed. If not then let's have your argument instead of trying to shut people up. We'll also not get anywhere if Mweb refuses to answer important single answer questions.

So why is gaming de-prioritised (we can use that word instead of shaping Will)?

If it takes less bandwidth than torrents and HTTP downloads, why upset your main customers??

Awesome, thanks! will have a look tonight

Lounger you say "they 'allocate' a very small amount"

When I read Will's post that is not the idea I get at all
In fact I get the idea that gaming traffic is in the largest pool with the largest amount of allocated bandwidth but certain service has a higher priority

And then you state that they aren't going to change
Which from what I see they are trying to do

And lastly Gaming is not in the same pool as Torrents although HTTP is priorities which are one of the reasons they clamp down on people using HTTP downloads to bypass the shaping on torrents.

If they were aiming at shaping gaming then gaming as a whole would be impossible when using MWEB
But there is now a few specific games with issues and you just assume that they are now shaping “games”

Hell do you think they started this thread to bugger up your games or to help improve where there are some issues.

As for that if you buy an unshaped account then all services is de priorities.
Since there is no priority on any service when using unshaped

That is not always a bad thing

What you are asking for is for Gaming to be given the highest priority
Which isn’t necessarily feasible

@Veneficus

Your understanding is correct and in fact my original explanation needs to be updated.

Gaming traffic no longer sits at the middle level of unshaped traffic, as it is now being actively prioritized.

Kind Regards
Will

Two thumbs up! Best news I've had in ages.

Thank you Will/Mweb

Don't celebrate too much just yet guys - I've been looking at some more traffic now with our senior network engineer and I think there might still be a hidden snag with WoW, which is Blizzard's new in-game content streaming system. I have a suspicion that this is still going to cause some issues and I am in the process of trying to find out as much as I can about how it works to see if we can come up with a way to categorize it properly. If anyone has come across any technical info as to exactly how it does things please post links.

Blizzard's 'in-game' content streaming downloads the data over P2P and HTTP, just like all the regular patches. It does not stream over standard WoW ports. Please tell your senior network engineer to calm down and raise WoW's traffic priority.

Alright i got home after 5PM logged into wow.. wonderfull latency 250ms no lag spikes nothing.. i was all happy chappie, did a few raids everything went great!! no lag at all, just now on the dot when the clock striked 18:00PM!!!! All the lag started WTF!! Mweb? Do you guys have a timer that everything get heavy throttled after 6PM? I was busy in a raid and could not complete, the lag spikes was horrible from 250ms to 500ms from 500ms and kept jumping over 2000+ms, and this all happend when the clock striked 18:00PM

Seems like after 6PM you need a new ISP provider for gaming.
