MWEB Gaming Feedback

It has nothing to do with the new patch WGS2010, its a mweb issue.

Hey there,
I've done alot of reading on the WoW Forums about the lag since wednesday, and it seems to be only affecting certain ISP's both here, Europe and in America. So something has changed since the patch that is causing certain users to lag like crazy. I've tried absolutely everything my side though so its out of my hands now but I wrote to Blizzard this morning and got this response. Just thought i'd drop it here, maybe it can help. One thing i have noticed is its a very different kind of latency I than I have ever experienced before, very inconsistent with what feels like massive packet loss and huge spikes, usually sitting aorund 5k ms.

Thanks Will.

Except that me and a bunch of other ppl started experiencing this almost a month ago.

No problem, please let me know what the outcome is. I saw your speedtest result in the other thread and WoW problems aside thats definitely not an indication of how the network is performing currently.

Its not a WoW specific issue, Guild Wars is currently just as bad. Please see my above trace that shows 1000ms just to break out of the mweb network.

WoW being shaped

Hey me again,
I found this post from someone who was comlaining about WoW being recognized as a p2p service.
Might be of some use.

I thought I'd add in on this issue so we can get another response from a blue poster.

It's not that WoW is P2P'ing. With the latest patch, WoW has changed the way that some of its data is recognized by the packeteer...namely, some of the data has a "very similar signature" to the data that p2p and other torrenting and file sharing and uploading programs and systems use. Since most universities, colleges, military installation and other places have banned and/or disabled p2p, it will start to slow down wow's data intact from the servers, etc. That's why you can play fine, but after a while the connection to the server seems to clog...to note, your usual internet, ie surfing the web, etc, are not affected by this.

There are a couple issues that our IT department is looking at. The first is pretty unlikely and almost impossible. It's basically to open the port 3724 to allow free access for the game. However, doing so would ultimately allow for other problems, like downloading and uploading via torrents and other methods, and so for any network that can't hold this, that solution is obviously not viable. The second is actually two fold....either Blizz can revert the change they made in the recent patch ( I think it was about 2 weeks ago) to where the data is sent as it has always and normally been sent, or give players the option to allow their data to work like this.

This is the information I have after speaking with our IT dept. and it is not that wow uses p2p data xfering (outside of patches), but that the change to the signature of the packets has moved to similar with p2p packets and traffic.

Any blue response would be much appreciated.

^-- hope that is true and that Mweb can sort out this s$%t coz this is not cool, I put in other accounts from a lot of different ISP's and they all work fine.....seems that some1 there in the IT department do not know how to change some packeteer rule :P. I know its Sunday and all but this issue rose after the Authentication issue on Wednesday (which was also the patch day for WoW), as I said, during office hours it works fine, after 18:00 everything has gone too s$%t and this is not cool. I have tested this whole weekend with other ISP's as well as different accounts from the various ISP's and it is working fine.

please, please, please I know that to some 500 bucks for cap is not much but to others it might be and now i have to spend more money on other accounts to play the game that worked Monday and the past month or so fine.....

Thanks Mr Ops :)

Osiris I have responded to your PM as well, also please note my final point in that response - I do my best to be present here and check in over the weekends, especially when there are issues. but please don't have an expectation of instant responses from me as you may be disappointed.

Thanks
Will

I know. You didn't reply to my email from, like, June. Dude, please get an organiser. It helps.

@Lounger I'd love to know how you did that considering that my join date on these forums is August :) If the MWEB Ops guys missed out on a response to you then I'm really sorry about that. If it's something you still need answered then please drop them a line again and I'll make sure it gets attended to.

However this is probably a good opportunity to reinforce this request. Please as a general rule don't send me PMs on this forum unless we're discussing an ongoing issue and you need to give me information related to your personal details. I'm here to keep a general eye on things and field the more difficult questions and I try to check in as often as possible, but I have many other responsiblities as well. We have a specific team of people working on the MWEB Operations account and our other social media channels who can handle all day to day queries so please make use of them if possible. If there is something they need to bring to my attention then they will do so.

Thanks
Will

Nice try Will, but the e-mail I sent you didn't have anything to do with this forum.

Maybe try issuing a reference number or something because ignoring an e-mail doesn't look good. (btw I'm not expecting a response at this late stage)

Nice work Vaughn but it is probably going to go very badly for us gamers.

So disappointing, especially after we had just received an upgrade for WoW traffic, to have it changed by Blizzard in to something else in the exact same week.

It will be very interesting to see if MWEB is capable of making exceptions for gaming traffic being treated as P2P without letting the whole network go to hell with normal torrents.

Only thing we can do is wait and see, hopefully Will can have a word with the weekday 9-5 techmonkeys to see what can be done to resolve thjs issue.

Ye its definitely a MWEB thing, all my other accounts work perfectly (under 400ms).

I have been experiencing the problems before the new patch. A few friends/guildies i know have also experienced it before the patch. This and the fact that guildwars also has the same issues (other ppl in this thread has complained about gw and i also checked it out) would be more than enough proof that it has nothing to do with wow patch or them changing something.

So in conclusion, ITS NOT THE WOW PATCH.

so in short ur saying buy a capped account ? :P

My issues only started after I had pached WoW. Everything was perfect (well mweb perfect) before that point. Now the performance is at best erratic.

I suspect (without any other word from the mweb) that there was some protocol changes to the wow traffic and that their shaper doesnt recognise it so it is thrown into the pool of unknown / we dont care protocols.

Maybe there will be a patch for the shaper that will once again recognise WoW traffic.

What I think I would appreciate is that mweb admit there is a problem, and if they dont believe me they can come around to my house for coffee and i'll show them. And then give us some info on proposals for fixing it.

Ye for me it also only started the night after the patch was applied, before that I had never had a night that the lag was more than 750 and it was usually closer to 400. Makes me sad cause I thought I had finally found the all in one internet solution with Mweb :(

its not that the app needs a patch its more like they need to adjust a rule setting, that is all, problem is that if they change it there might be other stuff that might mess up. Anyways, its not the patch coz there is a lot of International played games that is also affected, for instance HoN....

kids yelling at will to PLEASE PHONE THEM NOW and some wow related stuff.

minor de-rail:

kids bugging will for a response:

that's just dumb. you really do come across as the twelve year olds you are when you tell him he has to phone you. he is a) not beholden to you for anything b) just one guy monitoring this discussion.

if your game is frustrating you /that/ much, it's time to take a break and do something else.

at said kids: doublefacepalm! when one face palm just isn't enough.

re-rail: i haven't had significant problems playing world of warcraft, apart from /very/ occasional spikes. but i haven't been watching it very carefully. i'm not really doing anything that warrants keeping track, anyhow. [i'm beavering away at loremaster, which basically means that occasionally, i go into instances, but that's about the only time a lag spike might be troublesome.]
