MWEB Gaming Feedback

Unfortunately that's because it is an international ping. If there's no peering in place then the traffic routes over international links, do a trace to the servers and you will see if its going through CINX or JINX, or internationally.

Ja, unfortunately MW2 works on peer 2 peer. Anyone in the lobby can be the host.... It auto chooses the best line for the host (well usually) .. oh well Black Ops is round the corner!

@Serapheem If you have been following the thread then you will have seen that we have bypassed basically every shaping rule and cache server that we thought it was even remotely possible could have an effect on this.
The only thing to date which I have seen have any effect on this problem is the MTU settings change which seems to be the most viable workaround that is being punted currently on various forums.
If you have not tried it yet please do so as from my point of view it certainly seems to be working and there is nothing else we can change on our side at this stage.
Looking at what Virgin Media is experiencing it seems they are in the same situation and have elevated the issue to the vendors of their traffic management devices. I will suggest to our networks team that we now do the same as we have exhausted all other avenues.
After that we will have to wait and see who comes up with a solution first, them or Blizzard.

@Veneficus. At this stage you probably know as much as I do from the press releases. I think it stands to reason that we would be interested in hosting other games besides Blackops. i don't have any confirmation of details, or timelines around this though.

@Will.

As i said before! You are the Man!! Thank you for your constructive feedback - truly refreshing. I did not want to change my MTU config as this was fine before the patch 4.01. All I ask is this. Why do I get reasonable latency with my Webafrica shaped account (250ms - 400ms) and I do not with my 4meg Shaped account from Mweb.

That is all I am really wanting to get at. What are they doing differently than Mweb and Virgin Media.

Thank you again! Have an most amazing day in the Mweb Dungeons!

Ok Will i haven't been here for a little while but last night at about 7:45 - 8:30 both me and my roommate lagged out though he dropped i was fine, i was playing DotA on a local server where as he was on Starcraft 2 official... i'm looking for an explination as well as a possible solution.

@Serapheem as i said before it's our network but it's their application. I don't know why the problem is only prevalent on certain networks and not others, but by the same token i must assume that Blizzard doesn't either, or they would be more forthcoming with an answer and they wouldn't have caused this problem in the first place. Not everything on the internet and particularly in the world of online gaming is laid out in logical stripes, sometimes you have to accept that there is a workaround and use it until a more long term solution arrives.

@Grimreaper, I'm sorry, but I really can't comment on that, there could be numerous factors that caused a problem for you and your roommate at the same time. perhaps you had a torrent in the background that started seeding? Perhaps an Antivirus, or a Widows update kicked off, or there could have been a spike in traffic at your DSLAM, or exchange? I'm happy to investigate issues that might be occurring on our network, but you have to give me some facts to work with, or we're just speculating.

Ok if it occurs again tonight i'll run a quick traceroute to the local Warcraft server and post it here as for torrents they were all completely disabled, anti-virus both of ours have their updates set to manual and both our updates are disabled. thats as much information as i have right now.

Can anyone here suggest a 30/40GB package from another ISP (something like the Titan package from WA) that is roughly the same price of MWEB's 4mb uncapped, and which actually works with WoW? I think its time to make MWEB my backup ISP. I don't see this getting fixed in the forseeable future. And work arounds aren't going to cut it for me.

Seeing as this is a WOW problem and not an MWEB problem you are going to be pretty much SOL till Blizzard fixes this.

Umm no.

Sure, this might be an implication due to blizzard's changes/ patches that have caused the issue.

But the fact remains that Mweb doesn't work. And a ton of other Local ISP's DO WORK. So this is a prioritization issue and Mweb (even though they have multiple IP's for multiple realms and haven't bothered to look at what data/protocols are being sent/received on these IPs so that they could maybe set up a different prioritization on this throughput) cant fix it.

Now if they can't fix it, fine.. whatever. I am not interested in spending money on a company that just can't be bothered to adjust their setup, as it will most likely cause more headaches. So why help the gamers out? Its not their core service, nor will it ever be. They want the masses. And the masses just browse youtube and look at facebook. I can't say I've had any issues with browsing the net. But gaming is down the tubes.

As someone said earlier in this forum post: It can't be a Blizzard issue when it kicks in perfectly at 18:00. And pre 6pm is fine. And again, I have to state the fact that my WA account works perfectly no matter what time of the day, and so do many other local ISP's.

I'm going to have to sift through hellkom's site or somewhere, but I will be changing ISP. This is just shocking service.

Now don't get me wrong. Will@Mweb has been the voice for their company, he is doing an awesome job at liaising with us/ MyBB members. He has literally bent over backwards to keep us happy. But he isn't their technical guru. Nor does it appear that his tech team knows what to do. Because this is a simple send/receive data on random ports/protocols and no one at mweb can correct it.

So if anyone here has a suggestion for a decent 30 - 40GB Dsl package I would be most grateful. (I wish I could get the Titan deal, but unfortunately that's not available afaik)

Well then the only reasonably priced capped product would come out of Afrihost, I think you get 50GB and unshaped for R475. Not really for me as I don't like babysitting my connection but it might work for you.

Mweb have the best uncapped account out there. I have to give them the praise there. I wouldn't even look elsewhere for uncapped, at least for my needs. But the one main thing that has failed is gaming, and it's a core part of my internet usage.

So sure, I might need to take it easy when I stream my next piece of media from a set bandwidth account, but at least everything will work as intended.

Dude Gaming is not completely a fail with MWEB
WOW gaming is a problem at the moment yes (that and gaming on SAIX network which is another thing all together) which they have been trying to fix
But there is other MMO's which works 100%
I play Lord of the rings online and my average latency is 273

So it just depends on what you play
As for changing your MTU that isn't exactly a very difficult change and it isn’t irreversible either
But I understand that you are scared of changing your settings to get it to work

Im on iBurst got same issue on WoW, change my MTU to 1000 and seem to do the job, but I am getting told from GM's this issue will be fixed in next hotfix. In th US all of them are complaining about this, in EU mosty the UK ISP customers are complaining. Last night I had to cancell a LK 25 heroic raid cause half the raid was dcing, lagging and having major problems.

Since this is the Mweb Gaming thread....

Anybody know of some CoD4 servers on the Mweb network? SGS servers are gonna be unplayable now that the links to the Telkom network have been cut :(

My latency as of 5 min ago. Stormrage (EU) in Stormwind: Mweb uncapped 5800 ms; Afrihost capped 600 ms. :( Glad I got my free gig :D

Piet have you read through any of these posts?

http://wow-blue.com/?search=latency

Yes Will, I have but the fact is that during the day on my Mweb account(4mb shapped uncapped) I play fine at a nice 230-300 ping, no hic-ups, no issues. As soon as 6PM hits I get a dc and then my latency is 20k MS.

Now no offense but that to me does not sound like a Blizz issue, yes they might have some issues with the packets and how it gets seen etc etc, which they are also addressing, BUT I do not believe that the fact that the game latency is fine during the day and after 6PM everything goes south is due to Blizz, they did HUGE changes compared to what it was and yes there will be impacts but not like this.

Just another pointer, I had NO issues after the patch, nothing, and after there was some issues at the Mweb side, after the Authentication error a month back, I reconnected and all was still fine.....till 6PM and BAM!! it went south.

I do apologize if I sound frustrated.

and another thing, from what I read on Blizz's support site, it seems that ISP's can contact them w.r.t setting up monitoring for the packages, breaking down the package to see what is going on etc etc(don't remember the link....trying to find it)

again, I do apologize if I sound rude or frustrated, it is not my intention, but from all the evidence I gathered thus far I do not see it being WoW or Blizz related.....
