MWEB - How are they?

Hey Guys,

Please could you tell me your experiences with MWEB, especially if you are on there "Bigtime Surfer Uncapped ADSL" 4MB, as that is what I'm thinking of getting.

dont torrent on it and you will be fine.

use mostly http downloads, and news.

my 4 meg experience so far.
 
It isn't capped per sé, but they shape everything to stop bandwidth usage. Its a way to cap without doing it imho. Very tedious and bad for gaming, torrents, Rapidshare and a few other things.

Their backbone is Seacom, which is down a lot.

Is that on "Bigtime Surfer Uncapped ADSL" 4MB?
 
It depends on what you want to use it for.

For web surfing and email they are fantasic... News groups they are a little slow...

I use it to update my Nintendo wii and download games.,,, mweb is good

I dont use steam.. so I have no idea.


I get 200 plus Gig a month on my 4 Meg line ,, so I think its good value for money.

Let me see if I understand this ....you have a 4MB line and u use for browsing only? :mad:

yes im using 4mb shaped, and cpt does not use seacom btw, and they have redundancy with sat-3, as all cpt users route though sat-3.

@ brad http downloads= filesharing, i get all the stuff i would got though torrents though filesharing sites.

I hear what you saying but lots of the downloads don't always allow download managers to be used and if they do, you can't pause and download later. Good on you...enjoy your 4MB

Like I Said, I'm going to be doing HTTP downloads and by what I have read, MWEB will be good for this.

I have a 4MB Uncapped with Afrihost at the moment at home (For torrents and Gaming). I would like MWEB for my Office. Will do most of my downloading there :)
 
yes brad, jdownloader, you manage then and resume on free accounts...

but i run it 23/7 on my netbook so i don't pause it

Dude, Mweb regards RS and other file sharing sites as P2P traffic and shapes it heavily.

Also, who told you Cpt doesn't use Seacom?

I was wondering exactly the same thing.

MWEB shape the crap out of you, and if you are HTTPING from rapidshare or somewhere else, remember you will still be shaped BADLY as well.

Pick whoever you want, Uncapped in SA = Heavily Shaped.
 
yes they shape per connection, i fire up up 4 threeads, say hotfile,fileserve,filesonic and rapid share then i get max speed, sometimes rapidshare runs 200kps etc
