Mweb issue!!!!

<snip>
I guess with the growing number of users ip's are becoming scarce.

With everyone sitting behind NAT routers, there are plenty of IP addresses to go around (meaning one company or one household are allocated one 'external' IP only; all internal machines are on the LAN). A check on all class A networks shows that several are still unallocated, each one equating to 16+ million unique addresses.

I am well aware of ip addressing, etc. I was just under the impression that we have to pay for static IP's and that we are assigned a new IP each time we reconnect? Is this not the case with Mweb or ISP's in general these day?

generally it seems to be the case that unless you are not connected to your ISP for a length of time; the next time you log on you will have a different IP address. But if you reboot your router, there is a very strong chance that you will have the same IP address. I think once I was not connected for about 15 minute and when I reconnected I was still on the same IP address.

It's the luck of the draw. In most cases, if you reconnect within a reasonable period of time, you will get the same IP address.

But the important thing is that this is not guaranteed and therefore you can't rely on this as a "static" IP.
