Hi Guys

I was wondering if anybody knows of any issues with MWeb bandwidth at the moment, because I have a 4meg line and my download speeds are between 30kbps and 0kbps and P2P speeds are even slower...
but my direct download speed is 400kbps ,anyone got any ideas,i dont think its shaping because its 2am and my current speed is 0kbps.

shaping is a nasty thing - it is not your friend... hope it came right though

mweb have been hitting p2p really hard in the last few weeks, if things dont come right by next week, after this alleged "upgrade" is complete they can kiss me good bye as a customer, how do they expect one to stay up to date on new HD releases when they shape so severely? not to mention all the ps3 jbs coming out.

P2P is shaped. If you download torrents, there's services that can allow you to get full download speeds. You can check out my signature if you need a starting point.

Jip, I left a p2p download running from yesterday 7ish, when I checked this morning, I downloaded a whopping 1.2Gb. This is with a couple of thousand seeds..

Yes, my news servers speeds on Mweb 384kbps was also very poor this morning, but it really doesn't bother me if its slow, since I don't pay anything extra for using it.

I'm on 512 and get a constant 50 odd at all times. Didn't download anything last night though so *meh*.

I really doubt that you guys will get better uncapped for the same amount elsewhere!

My downloads are flying once again :)

I have a 512k uncapped with MWEB. Been trying to download a torrent since yest and the best speed I get is 20 kb/s. Avg is even worse, it is around 10 kb/s. Sometimes speed goes down to less than 5 kb/s.

This is a torrent with a few thousand seeders. Its not my line because I have an IS account too and there I get around 50 kb/s.

Let me know if anyone has a solution?

It has become unbearable on the mweb uncapped network.

I'm on a 4mb uncapped and my connection to the news servers have dropped from the previous 450kb to between 40kb ~ 100kb!!!
allot of the time the speeds sit between 20kb and 40kb!!!
I'm just wondering if this is a temporary thing or is this the type of service we can now expect from mweb uncapped.

PS: The slow speeds are 24 hours and not just during business hours.

1. Yes, Shaping.
2. Signature.

i havent been able to connect to newsgroup since last night and i had no local or intl browsing at time....only now did it come right as i restarted my router and used mweb.co.za instead of dslmweb.co.za

According to the Mweb rep on these forum, NNTP traffic is in the same pool as P2P. IMHO this is rather unfair, since NNTP traffic is local only. He also said they would look at decoupling the two in the future...

My account is already on mweb.co.za instead of dslmweb.co.za but still my newgroups downloads are tricking along at an avg of 20Kps :(

I'm still doing a GB/day via the MWeb news server on my 384kbps uncapped. I have to add that I'm also not getting a constant 39-41kB/s like I used to.

It's only local if you download from their news server. Plenty of people are using international news servers. But I agree, having NNTP less shaped than P2P would be great :D

Let's face it, most of us are downloading recent stuff, right? I don't see why anyone would want to download recent stuff from overseas - news.mweb and news.is have it all.

Ok, if ur looking for old and rare stuff, then yes, the local servers do not have the same retention, but then you might as well torrent these.

My point is, if it is local-only NNTP traffic, it should be unshaped (or less-shaped )after hours - I have no issues with shaping during business hours.
