Mweb now requires a month's notice for downgrading!

I attempted to downgrade my uncapped 4mbps account to the 1gb capped account before the end of September.

It wasn't downgraded and after enquiring why, today (2 weeks later) I received notification from Martha Wightman of MWEB's Customer Contact Centre stating:

"Please note that, when you downgrade it means you are canceling the current product. To cancel a product, a calendar month notice is required. Hence the reason why the downgrade will only take effect on 1 November 2013."

I suppose this is new Mweb policy, to try to stop the outflow of disgruntled clients.

That rule for a calendar month notice has been in effect for years already. When did you send the cancellation forms in?

The rule was in effect for cancelling, not downgrading.

Closed the calendar month cancellation loophole (downgrade to 1 GB capped). Wow a new low for Mweb.

The rule was in effect for cancelling, not downgrading.
I had to do it as well when I downgraded my account a couple of years ago. Maybe it was in effect, then not and now it is again.

If they changed the rule then you can surely conclude they are bleeding clients.

Yup, they were happily downgrading clients all through August for 1 September downgrade, and 30 September cancellation. No calendar month notice was required, or enforced.

Seems they're now stooping to new lows.

This is South Africa's most despicable company at the moment. Pathetic, thieving, conniving, lying, bastards...

Not just MWeb ... I downgraded my WebAfrica uncapped at end of September and also have to wait 1 month for cancellation before going onto 1Gig capped. Getting downgraded to 4* after using 10Gig in 11 days is not my idea of uncapped.

i also downgraded. what now? the person on the phone told me that the downgrade would take place on the first of october. my account details show as 1GB in their portal. i was debited R539 though...

Last year I changed my package twice and there was no calendar month's notice for either time, there was a ****load of unnecessary re-sending of ids, proof of residence and other stuff that they already have though.

Surely you should have transparency of your own rules, why not let everyone know what the policy is?

...so that I can look further into this and provide you with feedback.

Why would you need to "Look further"?
Surely you were briefed about this, or do customers now know more about MWeb's policies than the MWeb Reps themselves?



Just post a normal post on MWeb's downgrading policy, no need for Private messages or account information to find out if the OP is correct or not.

I agree with Keeper. Were you guys simply not enforcing your own rules previously or have things changed? If the former, then it is once again a case of not being able to trust a single thing that comes from your company. If the latter, then you lot deserve to have every customer abandon you and find a decent ISP from this point on. As if your previous lying about your uncapped offering wasn't enough...:rolleyes:

And if a user decides to UPgrade his package, does he also have to wait a calendar month, which by mweb's own definition is also a "product cancellation" ??

Thank god I ditched Mweb a few months ago. I can downgrade or cancel my current DSL connection effective from the start of the next month as long as I give notice before the 25th. Perfectly reasonable policy.
