MWEB plans WiMax trial extension

Friday 18 January 2008:

From the article it is evident that MWeb have done their paperwork, but the 22nd is just Tuesday after this coming weekend, in other words 3 working days from today, the 18th.
Cutting it a bit fine there?
Are the ICASA employees back at work from the silly season?

I think we need to keep a watch on this one.
Be it MWeb or whoever, ICASA should be doing their job.
WIMAX from what I can gather is quite a good alternative to ADSL. Of course time will tell if it can compete against ADSL in a meaningful way, but it could be a valuable alternative to people who can't get ADSL and those are many, be it demographics or simply people still waiting for the Telkom Bus to deliver.

hey! i want to be part of the wimax trials!!!

how come Mweb has to toe the line when it comes to listening to ICASA? but Telkom flat out ignores them?

Could someone please explain why the legal framework is in place for Telkom to offer Wimax but not in place for any other SP.?

Telkom currently has a license to allow them to provide network services and will further be converted to a ECNS license. The most important part is however that they have WiMax spectrum – the others are iBurst (which Vodacom uses for their WiMax rollout), Neotel, Sentech.
