MWeb offer a uncapped premium 1Mb and a uncapped 2Mb for the same price.

I browse, and partake in casual gaming (minecraft, Rift, WoW etc).

Why would I take the premium line at half the speed?

Higher threshold per 30 day rolling window.

2Mbps Standard = 70GB, 1Mbps Premium = 100GB.

So the takeaway is, if my usage is below 2.3G/d, the 2Mb standard is the better deal.

no

mweb is not the better deal

Some game updates these days are easily 50 - 60 gigs. If you have a 70 gig throttle limit by mweb, then you will be throttled very very quickly.

Just rather stay away from any ISP who throttle uncapped accounts.

Well remember it is a rolling 30 day period. So if over 30days you average less than 70 Gig So if you do 2.3G/d and once go up to 3 you will be throttled for a day. If you can stay clear of the throttle the experience is quite good. Assuming you are not at home during the day. They do shape torrents etc quite heavily during the day.

This guys need and your need is not the same, so you can't say which is the better deal. The question he posed immediately tells you that he won't do a 60Gig game download

Sure let's get everyone on business accounts even if they don't need them.

Hi Fudge

The 2MB Standard has a threshold in the region of 70GB whereas the 1MB Premium threshold is 100GB

You need to see what will best fit your needs plus your household.

Do want speed or Data? From here you can make an informed decision.

My adsl line is not with Mweb and I upgraded from their 1Mb Premium to their 4Mb standard in order to make use of the 2Mb line. 4Mb standard is R239 p/m and data is 110 gigs. If your line is with Mweb you cannot do it because they give you R25 discount on your line!

so you are saying that it is okay for an ISP to throttle accounts to make sure that their profit margins are always guaranteed?

So you say you want to pay a flat rate for all your groceries in the store and the shop keeper shouldnt complain too much when you take too much that it is harming his shop?

Mweb is still a business and for some people they do offer the best performing service.

Are you 12 or something?

Like all things in life you get what you pay for. If you want cheap, you get cheap.

And what's the threshold for 2MB Premium? And it's all inclusive price?

I would have said I want speed, not data, but with email, gaming and youtube I already seem to be using 60Gb of 30d sliding window. Which is less than the 100GB my premium 1Mb package offers, but I figure with 2x the speed available I'' probably easily exceed the 70GB the 2MB standard package offers.

I know that ZA internet is poor compared to the rest of the world, but this is still piss poor for even an entry level package. Is there a table anywhere comparing the various ISPs softcap offerings so I can make an informed decision to stay or move?

Not allot of ISP's provide this information in an open forum.
