So I am looking at some ADSL bundles, and I see that Mweb and Afrihost are very similar in price for their 2 & 4 Mbps options.

Question is which one is the better of the two, i.e. when does throttling, if so, occur on either of them. I read previously that the Afrihost Business has a 7 day rolling period, does this still exist?

I have been looking through previous posts, but maybe consolidated comparisons and updated feedback from existing users will be more beneficial.

Good Morning mikesmixes, are you looking at our unshaped offerings?

The uncapped packages, for example the 2Mbps Mweb Premium @ R599 vs Afrihost Business @ R597

Send me your contact details via private message and I will set you up with a 7 day trial account.

Thanks, I haven't got a line yet, that's why I am looking at the bundle options.

Let me know when you have the ADSL installed and I will assist you with the trial account.

I had a mweb account back in the days. Normal 4meg uncapped. Used afrihost business package and switched to plugg this month and am not to happy.

Is it possible to receive a trial premium uncapped account even though I already had an account with mweb?

Also do you offer 6 or 8 meg lines?

How did you find the business package as far as throttling is concerned?

Yeah, on that subject, 6Mbps packages would be super useful. That is my line sync, so I can't justify 10Mbps, and 4Mbps robbing me of almost 2Mbps, which is a big deal when the whole family uses the line.

All in all the Afrihost Business line is not to bad. Normal HTTP and FTP speeds to local servers were almost full line speed at all times.
However, to Int servers it was not the case. I only used to get a max of 200kb/sec to INT servers when downloading files via FTP and HTTP. INT speed tests were the same. I could still live with that. Reason I moved was due to Hulu and netflix not playing ball. Only got SD quality, youtube would only stream on 480p etc.. Yet torrents and nzb would run 24/7 with full line speed. I dont download, I just stream, so if you're after downloading a lot get a afrihost business account. The 6meg had a 250/300GB rolling window for 7 days, I think.

Edit. On plugg, after 7 days I used 25.85 GB on streaming. My Star rating is on 3 stars. Pathetic

Morning, I will pass along your comments to our marketing team.

Hi there

Just want to first correct some misconceptions I've picked up on the thread. Our Business DSL is completely unshaped and unthrottled 24/7. It has not Quality of Service, so you get to use the product as you see fit, we don't interfere. Business essentially is constructed like a capped account (with no bandwidth cap and a max speed rate limit according to the product you buy , i.e. 4Mbps - where capped have no limitations on speed up to VDSL 40Mbps). We operated Business very differently on our previous network using rolling limits and 7 day windows, but these have been completely removed. So if you used Business a year ago, you would have a completely different experience today. Not only is the product different, but our IPC structure is different. With local IPC in DBN and CPT as well JHB, we can offer low latency connectivity for local and overseas services, using multiple undersea cables.

You can also check some of the threads where people have posted some feedback, or maybe ask the question there, you'll probably get the answers you are looking for :)

After this weekend this sounds like a good deal ;)

Use the Afrihost one , I use it and it works wonderfully

MWEB has gone down the drain - you will get throttled and shaped for the same price as afrihost
