I joined MWEB last Saturday afternoon online. I chose my email address online but never set it up until the following Tuesday as I was still using Telkom.

The minute I had set it up I had a flood of emails from MySchool, Woolworths, BEE training companies (EES) and estate agents selling property in golf resorts and aperson selling tickets for a talk by Arnold Geerdts (God forbid !)

How does one explain this seeing as though the mails were sent to me BEFORE I even activated my account ? The only people who knew that unique address were MWEB. Yet they deny all knowledge.
Coupled with their pathetic overthrottling of the uncapped service it's bye-bye- Mweb and a big hello to Telkom again.

Sounds like SpyWare on your PC. I've had my email account with MWEB since Feb 2000 (that's over ten years ago) and I've only ever received spam that's I've "chosen" to receive.

I signed up last month to Mweb and haven't received one bit of spam related to them. Must be some sort of Malware that stole your details! Or maybe your email address has been used by someone else before but was deactivated till you reactivated now.

had the same crap with pre paid sim cards!! brand new card still in its plastic wrap unused - once loaded with air time - I immediately received spam sms WTF!!
and had to get a blocking code from MTN to stop them.

I think the spammers / advertiser use software to generate email addresses and cell numbers - they have yr email address / cell number ever before u bought / thought of it!

I also had the same incident where I got spam on my new MWeb email address. MWeb also does not know a thing, but it's just weird as that address was only 2 days old!! It seems a little weird, especially as the mail address is not made up of a normal combination of my details on the web. So how was it farmed?
