4096 ... currently getting 15.4KB/s downloading a ted.com video, used to be 300KB/s+. Grooveshark buffering every 30 seconds... never had problems before. Browsing international dog slow.

Is it just me?

update: even vimeo is slow... trying to watch this video is impossible:

ARRGHHH...

torrents faster than http... getting 50KB/s on torrents... but 15KB/s on http. awesome shaping there.

Nope!!! Typical South African service. The company simply do not care as long as they get your money! Service levels, what's that?!?!?!?

To be fair, I doubt it's completely MWEB's fault but they need to start pressuring IS to address the poor speeds everyone is experiencing!

Sort of a bait and switch? Give decent service for a month or two, and then rape customers?

I have decent speeds... Also downloading a TED talks clip, 260MB at 300kB/sec... well, on a 4meg line, that is not great, but as bad as other cases... even torrents are over 100kB/sec.

Sorry cannot agree with your comments. However I am on MWEB capped as against uncapped. But then I dont want to download the internet.

Shocking Speeds here too... MWEB - what's going on ???

Maybe they had some heavy uptake on the VOD service LOL !!

Anything to a speedtest server is not shaped at all giving you a false indication of what is really happening. Download anything like a patch or whatever from where ever via http. Should tell you quick quick how you are doing.

You're lucky... TED is crawling for me. Torrents on the other hand are going as fast as they normally do (for me that's about 50KB/s)... don't use them much so don't know what is normal. Speeds up to now used to be good. I could pretty much stream whatever youtube video / vimeo / ted video i wanted without buffering... it's just the last 3 or 4 days its been bad.

I wonder if capped and uncapped accounts go via the same route / fall within the same BW pool?

As for downloading the internet, i doubt a 54MB video clip could be classified as the internet :P

strangely enough, DSTV on demand streams without issue :P now, if only i cared enough about house / desperate housewives... or super 14 highlights for it to make me want to watch.

SPeedtest means nothing!!! Mine also shows full line speed!

I'd have to agree... couldn't be too hard for MWEB / other ISP's to prioritise traffic to the speedtest servers so that it would appear that everything is fine, and shape everything else into oblivion.

Mweb is running fine, http news servers running lekka, they have had some int problems today but seems sorted to me.

International ADSL AFFECTED
START DATE: Wed 12 May 10 07h45 (SAST)
END DATE: Sat 15 May 10 20h00 (SAST)
EXPECTED DURATION: Approx 4 days
IMPACT: Increased latency, slow responses
REASON FOR CHANGE: SAT3 repairs & restoration

I'm tired of the on and off service. MWEB was good for one month so that word of mouth would spread and get people to join. From the start of May everything then went downhill once they had thousands of debit orders set up and the cash was flowing freely. If the service does not improve to a consistent level in two weeks I am just going to get myself a 20GB capped account which will probably allow me to download more than I can now. I understand that shaping will be in place etc but I think we deserve a certain level of consistency.
