Got a mweb test account , busy testing it with heavy download
Looking good

Will the test account perform as the account taken out
Sometimes wonder if they give you a wel performing test account and once you sign up, the speed and service drops

What is your experiences on this

Johan

Do you have any idea how much it would cost to create a special type of shaping just for test accounts?

Frankly most of the whining about slow speeds has to do with exchange congestion.

This is true.
On a 1mbps shaped uncapped account there have been plenty people who can pull way over 100Gigs pure download, with about half of that over and above for upload.
There's shaping during the day, and its pretty much free sailing at night provided Seacom doesn't go down.

For most people...including me, thats perfectly acceptable :D

Likewise, havenT had any problems thus far with mweb..

I also think the complaints about Mweb is plain whining. I had a test account for week. And it performs exactly the same as the account I signed up for.

I concur, also had the account for a week more less the same performances including the business hours shaping. I'm a happy chap with the performance thus far.:)

I have had the Mweb Uncapped account since inception & (barring 1 or 2 minor issues) have been very happy with it.
Yes there is shaping during the day, but that is to be expected to some degree.

Likewise. I get to use multiple accounts at multiple locations all the time (Mweb, Telkom, Saix / IS) and I can honestly say that my own Mweb home uncapped is as good as any of them, if not better. Been nailing it pretty hard this month too, night and day, and speeds are still great.

Very happy Mweb customer.

My only beef with them as an isp is that they are rather lax about letting existing customers know about price decreases / account upgrades. I know many people who've been with Mweb for years who were still paying, (some still are) R145 for a 3 Gb capped account when Mweb dropped the price on that to R79 years ago. The call centres excuse? That the R145 allows multiple connections and the R79 not. That was the only difference...

Hi Grouter,

We send emails to our customers to notify them of account upgrades, changes to pricing, new features and benefits to their MWEB email address. You can access your MWEB mailbox either via Message Centre link on www.mweb.com or you can adjust your mailbox settings to forward your email to an alternative email address.

Hopefully if you set this up you won’t be left out of the loop in future.

Regards,
MWEB Guy

Thanks for that, but it's not me that I'm referring to. I'm a pc tech and I have a number of clients who have been totally unaware of these changes when they happen. Either sometime in the past they have opted out of receiving these notifications, or they simply don't read them, or they get automatically put in a spam folder and never get read. Who knows, but the bottom line is when I tell them that there are cheaper (Mweb) options for their usage patterns they are usually surprised. Some of these people are ones who've been Mweb clients for over a decade. I guess the onus is, after all, on them to check what they are paying for, but it's been my experience that they generally don't bother. The stop order goes off every month and they never give it a second thought.

Moreover, I know of three different people who continue to pay R145 a month even though they are telkom internet or vodacom internet customers, not getting any bandwidth - dial-up, adsl or otherwise - from Mweb at all. These people's accounts are over 10 years with Mweb, starting as dial-up clients, and yet they haven't made a dial-up connection to Mweb for years. They think that the R145 pm is "to keep their Mweb e-mail address". :wtf: I told them to call Mweb and request a downgrade...

I think in a case such as this most (if not all) client would appreciate the automatic drop in price. Then for those who do require the extra connection, they have the option to opt in at the higher cost.

Precisely my point.

I have been with MWeb since the inception of the uncapped accounts - must be almost two years now.
I am completely satisfied with the product and the backup. I have had 384k, 1024k, and 4096k accounts and they all do as they claim.
Mweb started this whole un-capped trend and were first to tell Telkom to take a flying fusk - something for which we should all be thankful. Happy customer.

I dont know about that. I mean, how much would it suck if you did use 2 connections actively? Then suddenly one disappears. As a customer I would get even more pissed about that, coz then I'd have to do the tracking and find out wtf happened.

As long as MWEB sends out proper emails and correspondence, leave it up to the consumer to make their choice. My opinion anyway.

I guess mweb would have records of the people who do use concurrent connections, and could tailor make the change. But thats some serious admin.

How does one get a mweb test account I am on the telkom promo and need to choose an isp sooner rather than later
