MWEB + THE WEEKEND = FAIL

A bit off-topic, but I read an apt quote today: "Nobody ever buys a cheap parachute"...

Ha ha, so true, so true.

Another quote I heard today, saying the opposite: "Astronaut John Glenn, sitting on top of a rocket waiting for blastoff. Thinks to himself, this rocket is made up of 2 million parts, each provided by the lowest bidder on a government contract"...

hehehe killa removed his 22h09 post saying he thought the proteas game was tight. at 22h13 it is 118 for 8.

Any1 kno where/what msexchange.cedarhc.co.za is?

Cheapest isn't always the best option...
So if you want reliable internet, internet that is not down at anytime, uncapped, unshaped, then do the following: get your own cable to america/london from your home, get all the hardware, licenses... then you cannot moan if it doesn't work.

Got a fright when I saw my torrents working again at 4KB/s... (PirateBay tracker) Turns out it's an IS user I'm connected to :D

You will need multiple cables for redundancy too!

I'm with killedoob on this one - I have really been trying to support Mweb, but this is reaching my limit.

Down for a weekend? sure.
Slow on the next weekend? We all have problems.
Dead international the next weekend....

Come on MWEB, I want to trust you but I'm creeping closer and closer to going back to my Axxess express account... you have one weekend left. :P

If I were a mweb customer I would be pretty peeved right now.

What normally calms a situation is open communication. By this I don't mean a minute-by-minute update, but they should rather have given themselves a longer period to repair the fault than be overly optimistic.

Optic fibre breaks are not simple to repair (yes, I do know about this). They need to identify the exact location of the break, identify the type of cable used (you get get types of fibre), the length they require to replace (you can cut off a 30cm piece and splice in a new piece) and then dispatch a repair team (who were at home sleeping) to collect the cable from a store somewhere and then rush off to the location of the break. Once the repair crew get there, it is another ball game.... if it was caused by cable thieves and they are still in the vicinity, then they could get shot at and/or robbed! And so on....

And then their cellphones keep ringing as the bosses want continuous updates!

So sit back and watch some of the stuff you downloaded so far this month!!!

I'm not making excuses for the company, I'm trying to help you guys understand what the techies go through!

And good luck! :)

Well Thank Goodness for local torrents on a night like this :D
No bogging of the network so FULL SPEEDS :p

I hope whoever is organising the HD feeds from stadiums for 2010 has arranged some serious redundancy. Would be kind of embarrassing for the planets TV's to go blank in the middle of an important game because we fail hard at making a working interweb!

PS: Some people are saying that facebook is up. It isn't, it is only what mweb has cached locally. Try logging in, you will fail horribly... like mweb

Yep, IIRC they have 2x 20Gb fully redundand routes.
Also two "exchanges" per stadium with separate entry points per redundant route.
Plus Sentech satellite for triple redundancy.

Please get your facts straight. Its not cached on Mweb!!

FB is available locally via akamai. However when you logon your auth session is sent to the US hence the logon fail.

Starting to think the words South Africa and broadband are like two words that should be outlawed, because it simply doesnt exist....I think this is a strategy MWEB employs to screw up all our weekend fun...i'm really pissed off
